yea it's the same on cingulars side, but only if the person that stole it tells us he got another phone. Cingular does track IMEI's and can tell what IMEI your calls are placed, but for them to institute a list of stolen phones would be very expensive.
Not to mention the people that claim it was stolen, sell it, and get another phone through insurance.. this happens more than you think. One customer actually told me she was going to do it, then called the insurance co right from the phone we have set up for customers..

Hey i was wondering if this is the same with t-mobile. my friends friend works at t-mobile and he said he could get me a blackberry curve for 200, is there some way t-mobile can track the phone through IMEI number? can they automatically shut off the phone by tracking it? i have a different t-mobile phone but i dont want to buy the phone if t-mobile is gonna shut it off. can i just switch the sim card to the blackberry?

LOL so rude.ROC3000 to answer your question. the only thing you would have to do is get the T-MOB phone unlocked then you will be able to use it with any GSM network/provider. at&t has what is called an "open network" which basically means you can use any GSM phone no matter what the carrier .hope this is helpful
