My wife and I both have the Motorola V551. How do I connect via bluetooth to one phone instead of the other?
Her phone is a few months newer, so the bluetooth device always connects to hers first. Currently, the only way I have found to do this is to turn her phone off. This seems a little much, wouldn't you agree?

Provide a bit more info regarding what you want to do.
- Do you want to alternate using the same bluetooth device with both phones, ie sometimes yours, sometimes her's? If so, then you are going to have to turn off bluetooth on the phone you don't want to connect and leave the other one on. Another option is to leave bluetooth off on both phones, then "connect" to the device from the phone when you want to using "Handsfree" bluetooth option. This will temporarily power on bluetooth. You can set up shortcut menus to greatly reduce the menu steps to do either of these.
- Do you just want to use it with your phone? If so, remove the device from your wife's phone paired devices table.

No, we want to use Bluetooth to connect to both mobile phone devices.
Too bad Bluetooth isn't smart enough to say, "Hey! I found multiple devices out there. Which one do you want to connect to?" Instead, it simply connects to the first device it finds and stops trying.

Bluetooth should find all of the phones, and if you give them different names (like "joe_pool_is's cell" and "joe_pool_is wife's cell"), they'll both show up in the "Entire Bluetooth Neighborhood" section of My Bluetooth Places.

Your phone IS smart enough to do that when you have it search for devices. You can have multiple devices defined to your phone. You just have to go into the handsfree section and select which device you want to connect to. But a single device, like a BT earpiece, can only be actively paired and in use with one phone.
BT does have it's limitations, but I'm glad it exists...

From a PC, true. Phone to phone as well when you use them to send pictures, etc, via BT after pairing.
Hey Joe, one thing that might help folks help you a bit better is if you would explicitly state what BT device you are actually trying to use with both phones.

Have you changed the default Bluetooth device name on the phones - i.e. set it so they don`t have the same device name

I bought a couple of them off ebay and paid about $15/ea for them. Under my Bluetooth Devices settings for Hardware, I have the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator and the Generic Bluetooth Radio devices installed ...whatever that means.
Thanks for the discussion. I broke down and bought that silly MPT again (the older version I had from last year's phone was not compatible with XP SP2 - I mean it would not even load up!). Too bad MPT is 35 MB, or I'd email it to whoever wants/needs it.

These drivers may cause you problems. Typically the BT driver needs to be the "CSR USB Bluetooth Device" driver from what I understand. See this thread.
