Darth...I work for Verizon Wireless and have been in the wireless industry for 6 years with T-Mobile and Alltel as well. I'm a "shill" for them only in that I defend the industry when I believe that it is being unfairly denigrated.
Yes Darth, VZW does outsource overflow calls to places like Birmingham, AL and Las Vegas, NV.
Last I looked, we were in a capitalist society. Profits are not only allowed, they're encouraged. If you don't like evil corporations then move to Cuba, where EVERYONE is poor (except Fidel).
I responded to CK's response that wireless service reps do not value their customers. I strongly disagreed with that. If it weren't for our customers, we wouldn't have jobs..

I aplologize for my improper use of the word "outsourcing" the term that better describes my point is "offshoring". I also don't intend to give the impression that ALL customer service reps are not caring to the customers that allow you guys to have a job, my problem is in the individuals that extrapolate the Corporate attitudes towards customers and treat them accordingly. I work in the entertainment industry and am dealing with "reps" all the time, and have learned this "reps" are in place to handle the things not important enough or to which the person or persons that they "rep" don't or can't handle on their own. In my business I need to use a home network and have a wireless network setup in my home and have had problem after problem with my router settings. Each and everytime I contact Verizon and start the convo with, I have tried restarting, unplugging, and powering down and up again, what will you have me do now. They always respond with have you tried restarting......... Now I can't speak for VZW but have had a good relationship with 2 Cust Serv Supers and they tell me most all of Tch Asst. is offshored, and while dealing with settings (numbers and letters) of my routing system, I cannot understand Alibabba or Mrs. Patel.
On a side note for my knowledge, is Tampadelphian the offical term for someone from Tampa or did you relocate from Phily. BTW have family in Seminole and Clearwater and am thinking of buying down there.. how is the real estate market?

I live in Tampa and am originally from Philly. Good catch. It's a buyer's market but still very expensive. You need to look at not only the price of the home but the cost of insurance AND taxes. It's way too expensive to live here now, and I'm actually looking to relocate once I've lived in this home for 2 full years.

Thanks, living in Northeastern NJ I have become fed up with this state and have had to stay close to NYC for business reasons. I am slowly becoming more and more mobile business reliant and would love to try either Fl. or Az. but still am fighting the move to Cali. Appreciate your input on the west coast of Fl. real estate.

I know what you mean about NJ. Grew up in Sussex County and remember the commutes on Rt 80 with all of the other angry commuters. Moved down here after the winter of '93/'94.

Ok, I've posted it before, I will post it again. The customer is NOT always right. And you can say that without the customer we wouldn't have job, which is in effect true, but it should be stated that without customerS we wouldn't have a job. You CANNOT please everyone ALL the time.
To call a rep an idiot, or to say that they just don't care, or to say that they are only about the money, is irresponsible at best, and ignores the fact that while you assume yourself to be human, you think of a rep as something less. Try to remember that anyone that is living and breathing is due the same respect that you expect.
Oh and corporations are about profit, because without profit they cease to exist. If they cease to exist they no longer provide us with a service, which generally we appreciate having provided for us. And to condemn any form of outsourcing or outshoring would be to say everyone who provides a service must be able to provide 100% of that service in all it's forms. Try to remember that without specializing, we would all be back to being self-reliant in a way that provides no spare time at all, eat, sleep, work. Something tells me, that most of us aren't prepared to live that way.
And for that lawsuit, it's a lawsuit, that doesn't make it the truth. Many lawsuits are brought about, many are fraudulent. Many are brought about as class-action lawsuits, that are started by lawyers, and more often then not, the lawyers are the only ones that make any money out of it. Essentially that is legal extortion, and the rest of us get to pay more for products and services to help finance the lawsuit.
