My roommate got an unlocked Cingular LG L1400 on E-Bay to activate on a Rogers Wireless service in Canada. And you guessed it, all internet functions on the phone dont work. She cant send any multimedia messages, she cant download ringtones, and she cant access media net (or the rogers equivalent). The only thing that works is txt messaging and voice calls, thats it.
This seems like a pretty common problem for people who got unlocked phones, and it like most people can get them working properly. My roommate did go into a store and they told her it cant be done, but i'm hoping for a second opinion.
What exactly do we need to do to get this working? I'm assuming we should call customer care, but what exactly should we ask for. Is there any reason that MMS etc.. wont work here? It should just be some settings or something right?
Thanks in advance for the advice

When you unlock a phone you clear out all the provider's settings. Call customer service and ask them for the settings, they should be able to give them to you.

but is there any reason that it shouldnt work here? Apparently my roommate called CC before, and just got the runaround, and was told it wasnt possible. Rogers actually sells LG L1400s, so i'm wondering if its not possible with an unlocked phone, or were the reps she spoke with just incompetent?

just incompetent/in denial At this point your best bet would be to try and google the settings, or if you/your roommate know anyone with a Rogers branded 1400 you can just copy the settings from their phone.
ETA: I frequent another forum that may have a thread to help:

or

includes WAP settings as well

Ok, so i tried the settings in those links, only to find out that it is some pretty outdated info. I did a search on the rogers.com website and came up with this:
| Quote: |
In order to connect to the Rogers Wireless GPRS Network through a WAP Browser, a subscription to a navigate Mobile Internet plan is required. Rogers Wireless phones are pre-loaded with the WAP settings; however non-Rogers phones must be programmed with this information.
The settings required are as follows:
Primary IP: 208.200.067.150
Primary Port: 9203
Secondary IP: 208.200.067.151
Secondary Port: 9201
APN: goam.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
HomePage: http://mymobilehomepage.rogers.com/
|
I went to menu>media net>access point>options>settings
From here I was able to change the homepage, username, password, apn and primary IP. But i was unable to find the other settings in the phone anywhere... Anyone have a LG 1400, or access to the menu systems for the LG1400 who could possibly point me to the proper menu system within the phone to get everything properly changed?
Whenever I try to connect I get the error message "No GPRS, Try CSD?"
Its not even my phone, but I want to make sure that I can get an unlocked phone working with Rogers before I go buy my own on EBay. Thanks once again for the help.

okay, silly question but does your roomate subscribe to the internet feature? My LG (which is very similar to the 1400) has settings in only one place, a friend of mine had the 1400 and her settings were set up the same. There is, however another spot where the same settings should appear. menu-->settings-->connection-->access point. They should reflect the changes you made under the media net menu. So if you changed those settings it should be working. I guess my next suggestion would to have your friend call CS and make sure she's set up feature wise.
