Hi, I'm in the process of switching from Alltel (formerly ATT) to Cingular and I want a phon that has great reception. I don't care too much as to other things included on the phone, I really just want really good reception.
At the moment I have been thinking of getting the Motorola v551, Should I just get that phone or is there something better out there for me. I don't want a Razr because I don't like the keys, not enough tactile feel to them and the phone itself is a little too wide.
Also is there a way to get a discounted phone without having to buy a phone that is in the store that I sign up in.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Aaron

you made a good choice... the V551 is a reliable all round good working phone that is reasonably priced...the selection of a phone is a personal thing...what it boils down to is style and price

I saw that there is a V555 out somewhere, is that an update to the v551 or is it another companies version of it. I've seen it on ebay but I wasn't sure if it is ever going to show up in the Cingular stores. It seems like its been forever since they've had any new phones besides the RAZR and ROKR.

cingular (ATTW) still supports TDMA, but there are no new activations. the v557 is pretty much the same as the v551. the only difference i can find is that it has the "ticker tape"

And might I add that the "ticker tape" is a P.O.S!! There are only a few options to pick from at this time. Weather, ESPN news just to name a few... Not much for customizing...

I bought the V551 as a Christmas present for my daughter. You can find them brand new on eBay for around $140. Just an option to the retail stores. They tend to get pricey on new phones if you're not activating a new contract.

Cingular is selling them brand-new for that price now.
