I just got my Samsung M520 and a 2gb micro SD card. Is there any way to transfer ringtones from my computer to my phone on my memory card? I can only use a memory card reader as my way of communication. I can't send them via text or bluetooth and I don't want to waste the money by means of download.

Okay. I finally had a success with my SamSung u-740. Before I give the instructions, I must say that Verizon makes it VERY diffucult to put custom ringtones onto your phone, more they want you to pay their obnoxious prices to download their garbage ones. Anyway.

1. Edit the mp3 file with Audacity (or equivalent editor) to cut it down to less than 30 seconds, and smaller than 300k. Hint: You may need to lower the format and the rate to get below 300k, but, remember, as you do this, it lowers the quality of the file.

2. Go into Windows Explorer (or equivalent) and change the file type from .mp3 to .mid. You need to do this to "fake" your phone into thinking it is eligible to be a ringtone. Another hint: Depending on your PC settings you may have to go into Tools --> Folder Options --> View and uncheck "Hide extensions for know file types" to make sure you really change the file extension.

3. Move the converted ".mid" file onto your micro card in the My Sounds folder. Yet another hint: Make sure your format your micro card with your phone before putting files on it.

4. Put the micro card (with your file on it) into the phone. Go to your "My Sounds" section and find the file that is on your card. Yes. you got it. hint again: Make sure you play the file to make sure it is transferred over and sounds right.

5. Here's the trick that I finally figured out... and don't ask why we have to do it this way, because I don't know either... Highlight the file and chose Options --> Send. Send the file to your own phone number (as a pix message). The file will upload to the network, and back down to your phone as a Pix message. Okay... not really a hint, but more a pointer: When the message arrives at your phone, and you open it, the file should play.

6. Withe the message open, chose Options --> Save as Ringtone.

7. Now. your .mp3 file is a ringtone.
