I painted mine about 1 week ago... I was too scared to take it apart any further so it ended up two-toned (black/silver):

Two tone looks cool. How hard was it for you take the face plates off and paint it?

I agree, I like the 2 tone, kinda sleek, but what kinda paint and methods did you use on it? Came out rather nicely.

thanks - yeah, i think i like the 2-tone now - everyone asks me about it.

I took it apart as best I could using a T-6 (couldn't find a T-5, so I was careful not to strip the screws) according to the manual I found online.
I then laid down newspaper on the floor, and after carefully masking off some areas, I used three layers of Krylon (glossy black) Interior-Exterior spray paint.

I bought it because it said it was for "wood, metal, plastic, wicker and more" but now it's starting to show some scratching so I'm redoing it and instead of waiting just 15 minutes between coats, I will try a light sanding and THEN painting it with three coats and waiting 1 hour between coats.

I'll let you know how that turns out. The Motorola logo on the front face plate was painted over, and then I (very carefully) scraped off the surface paint, which left the "M" painted black. I left the back one painted black.
