Before you proceed with Flashing, make sure your cable works perfectly with your PC and phone. It is kind of weird that it created two COM ports. Run PC Studio and confirm your PC can communicate with your phone and found out which COM port is the correct port to be used. Make sure you always connect the cable to the same USB port. Switching USB port will create more COM ports.

Afterwards, think again whether you really need to flash your phone as one mistake may result in a non-working phone.

If you are pretty sure that flashing is the last thing that you have to do, search the internet and read as much as you can to understand how OptiFlash work and how to get the correct version that works for E720. You also need to know how to configure OptiFlash. Not just the COM port but also you need to set the correct memory range to be used and others. The next thing is find a good and reliable firmware that you want to flash to your phone. Always have the battery fully charged before flashing as you don't want the process stop before it is completed. Always backup the phone's firmware first and make sure you have backup the full firmware and not just part of it.

My advise, don't do flashing unless it is absolutely necessary.

I saw post that mentioned the exact same problem but doesn't seem to have an answer to it. Usaully, USB cable has an USB to Serial device which your PC will recognize whenever the cable is connect to the PC even with phone power off. I think the USB cable that you have is a direct USB cable that doesn't has a USB to Serial device. That may explain why when your phone is power off, the COM port disappear.

I know there are serial cable available for E720. Email me if you want a link to such a cable.
