I just ordered a Samsung e317 from cingulars web site as I was currently eligible for an upgrade and wanted a better phone than the LG 4010 that I currently have. I noticed that on the listing of phones availible for me to upgrade to the e317 is listed as:
Samsung e317
Select Features:
* Camera and video phone with digital zoom
* Multimedia messaging - send text, pictures and sound
* Downloadable polyphonic/full-audio ringtones, graphics & games
More Features
Specifications:
* Weight: 3.0 ounces
* Dimensions: 3.3 x 1.8 x 0.9 inches
* Talk Time: Up to 5 hours
Everything here checks out except for the fact that it is listed as a Camera and video phone
I ordered this phone among other things becuase it was a video phone. After looking on Samsungs site I find out that it dose NOT support video capture due to HW limitaions.
Any ideas on how to address this with Cingular. I would like to recive a Camera/Video phone for the price that I paid but from reading these forums it seems that for the most part Cingular is not to willing to work with the customer to "make things right".

just tell them you want to send the phone back as it is not what you were looking for. they will send a return label and let you know of other options for phones.

according to the user manual for this model at samsung.com it IS a video phone. also according to wirefly.
also, mobiledia.com labels this phone as 900/1900, but it's actually 850/1900

The e317 basically came in 3 different models for all the carriers. Cingular's is the 317, ATT was 316 and they made one for TMobile, the 315. Cingular's version does not support video while the ATT one does. I flipped through my owner's manual, it has nothing pertaining to video. The samsung online version may cover all three versions, I don't know.

according to wirefly, the e317 from cingular is video enabled. also, the samsung website for the e317 is video enabled. it says it is a feature in the introduction to the manual, but does not give any instructions for use throughout the manual. samsung seems to give confusing info about this, so it would be best to call samsung customer care and ask specifically.

I now have the phone and it is most definitly not a video phone.
If you check the FAQ for the phone on samsungs site about how do I take video on this phone it says Due to HW limitation this phone dosen't take video which dosen't make since since all the other modles in this family can take video.

its really not a hardware limitation. you can flash the 317 with 316 firmware and the video function will work *shrug*
