HOW-TO: Use Samsung DIY

HOW-TO: Use Samsung DIY 1.1 on G1 or any other V200 firmwares.

Ring Replace

1. File ---> Open Mobile File ---> *.bin file for

2. On the "Embed Tone Table" click on the Search Ring button. This will search any tones that is available in the firmware. "No." is just the number of the tone location. "Start Addr." is the starting memory address of the tone. "Stop Addr." is the ending memory address of the tone. Size is pretty self-explanatory. Notation is blank unless you have a pre-saved table which lists all the ringtones and their names, use. (If people are interested I might make one for the V200 G1 firmware).

3. Then on the left hand side browse to the location of your ringtones (mmf files) and select the folder. The ringtones will then be listed on the table underneath the folder explorer with the name and size.

4. Now when you want to replace a certain ringtone, you can not replace it with a larger size ringtone since it will go over the allocated memory of that ringtone.

5. The easy way to do it is to write down on a piece of paper all the ringtones that is listed on the "Embed Tone Table". For the G1 firmware, it runs from #037 to #059. Here are the names with its' size listed in order:

6. Then for each ones that you like to keep put a checkmark so that you know that you have to skip that ringtone.

7. Select the ringtone that you want to add (one at a time preferrably). Then right mouse click on it and select "Add to Tone Replace Table". That ringtone will then be listed in the "Ring Replace Table" below. After that choose the ringtone that you want to replace from the right table (Embed Tone Table). Remember about the sizing rule. Right mouse click on it and select "Add to Tone Replace Table".

8. Repeat for additional ringtones.

9. When you are done, check the boxes right next to the "No." in the Ring Replace Table. This is selecting which ringtones you want to create a flash file with. You are only creating a flash file for the ringtone so the file size will be considerably smaller than the actual firmware. After checking the boxes, right mouse click anywhere on the table and select "Create S3 file".

10. If you've made a mistake such as selecting the wrong ringtones, all you have to do is select the one you made mistake with in the "Ring Replace Table" and select "Remove Currently Item".

"Remove All Item" will clear the whole table.
"Remove mmf File" will remove the mmf file that you select
"Remove all mmf File" will remove all the mmf that is in the table
"Remove Tone Address" will remove the tone address that you selected from the "Embed Tone Table"
"Remove Tone Address" will remove all the tone address that you selected from the "Embed Tone Table"

11. Then flash the phone with the S3 file just created.

String Replace

1. Make sure that the correct flash file is opened.

2. Select English as the language option in the "Replaced String" and "Replacing String".

3. Type the EXACT ringtone name that you want to change in the "Replaced String".

4. Check the "From Begin" box.

5. Click Search

6. Type in the replacement name in the "Replacing String" box. This has to be the same or shorter length than the String Size which is available at the "Search Result". You can ignore the Start Address, Stop Address, and Match Times. Just use the "String Size" as a reference.

Note: You have to click search first before typing in the name in the "Replacing String" so that it will limit you on the string length/size of the name that you are typing.

7. After that, click the "Add List" button which is available underneath the "Search" button.

8. Repeat for every other names you want to replace.

9. Check the boxes in the "Sel" column of the "String Replace Table"

10. Right mouse click anywhere in the table and select "Create s3 file".

11. Use optiflash to flash the file to your phone. Again this is just a flash file for replacing the ringtone names so the size will be small. It takes only 5 seconds to flash this. About 30 seconds for the ringtones.

12. If you made a mistake then just select the one you made mistake on, on the "String Replace Table". Then right mouse click and "Remove Currently Item". "Remove All Item" is to remove everything in the table.

That's it. Remember that you have to remove the battery for ten seconds after each flash. And when flashing remove the SIM card. Don't complain saying "Phone won't turn on". If you follow the exact instruction including removing the battery for ten seconds after flashing, the phone will turn on with no problem whatsoever. Also make sure you have the correct settings for Optiflash. I have not used the Picture Replace tool in the software and I doubt I will. So don't expect me to write a tutorial for that one

One last thing. If your flash file is an SRE or S3 file then you will have to convert it to BIN. Just select the "S3 File Change" Tab. Open the S3 or SRE file then click on the button below it. Use the default settings. To change BIN to S3, do the same thing and use the default settings. (I doubt you'll need it though).

Hi im using samsung DIY 3.2 full and i cant seem to get it right....I changed 3 ringtones and they were all smaller than the ones i was replacing and when i made the .s3 file and flashed the phone i cant hear anything on those tones.....any help is appreciated

btw im using the F3 firmware

Hey V200, I dont see save in the ringtones section...Only the save table and there is a save icon on the top (looks like a floppy) and its greyed out....

Im a little confused here...Seem's the way you are telling me to do this is to change the bin file then convert it to .s3....If you look at the above instructions thats not the case...It says to get the ringtones in the replace table then right click and create .s3...If you do it this way you will not get to save...The only way i have found to save it is to right click and modify file then save.....So far no luck with this software

sorri about it , i cant seems to change the .sre extension to .bin extension , may i know what program to change it and how ?

cupidsux to change .sre to .bin just open samsung diy 3.2 full and click on the tab "SRE File Change" then click on browse. Browse for the file you want to be change and click "sre->bin" and it should convert your file to .bin file
