I definitely say go for the Nokia, I recently bought a Motorola V551 have it for 12 days now and the only good thing I've found with it is that the Camera is really good, but when it comes to Network very poor, Battery seems like its an old one because you have to keep charging it, when someone calls me on it I keep getting cut off . I've had a Nokia 3310 for 4yrs 7mths and it still gives me better service than the Motorola I jus bought and I have another Nokia for 7yrs now so if its durability you looking for the NOKIA is it.

I just picked up a V557 yesterday. I don't know what all it can do--but maybe later this week I will post some pro/con's....

I'm sending a Nokia 6102 back to Cingular in exchange for a V557. I have had a V551 on another line for 8 months now and love it.
I hate the Nokia. It's hard to hear, The buttons have no tactile feedback, the side buttons are impossible to push, and the ring mode can only be changed by navigating thru 4 levels of menus. Yuck!
In short, the Motorola V551 is a dream compared to the Nokia. I'm making the leap of faith that the V557 is only better.

I'm getting two new v557's for myself and dependent. I've gotten mixed info on the Nok 6102. I talked to a store in CA and was told it was a great phone and highly recommended. However, I also talked to a retail store mgr in FL who claimed he'd had a lot of returns on the 6102 at several of his stores, but himself recommended the V557, declaring that it was a really solid performer. Supposedly they've fixed a lot of gliches the v551 had.
This will be my first Motorola, as I've only used Nokia the past 7 years. I've only had about five cell phones until now. I started with a Nokia 2160, then a 5160. As GSM got better I changed to 3100 and also got a 3200, thinking it was an EDGE phone. When I learned it was useless to me, I got a 6200 off ebay so I could use the Edge modem, which proved well.
I'm looking forward to getting a much better GSM phone, especially after using a very old, 'no-frills' GSM phone, with a dinky 96x96, 4096 color screen, and only polyphonic ringtone capability.
Some features on the v557 that stood out for me were PTT capability and Bluetooth. I like the ergonomic feel of that clamshell, too. It's got a good, weighty feel to it.

ha! I can personally tell you that the v557 is wonderful compared to the Nokia. I signed up with cingular january 25. I chose the Nokia 6102 as my phone. I bought it over the phone so I recieved it via fed ex 2 days later. At first I didn't like how it felt when holding it, and how the menu's were laid out. However, since I had been with Nextel for 2 years (all motorolas) I figured I just needed to get used to it. To the Nokia's credit, it had great reception. However, it TERRIBLE battery life was its downfall (I work in a area of the country where service is spotty and if i was in an area with no or little service for the 8 hours the battery would go dead before the end of the shift). Also, the complex menus and inability to change some of the settings I thought I should have been able to change (front screen text size/color) really began to drive me nuts after about 2 weeks. I called cingular and told them I was NOT HAPPY with the phone and had them send me the v557. I LOVE THIS PHONE!!! Easier to personalize, buttons are more responsive, and battery life is at least 2 full days even with normal/heavy use. GO WITH THE MOTOROLA YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

I had the Nokia for about 2 days and traded it in on the V557. My wife and neither one could hear very well with it while talking.
