As far as I know, simply unlocking a V3 should not cause it to drop calls. I've had one V3 to start dropping calls after a week and I didn't unlock it from Cingular. Your phone most likely has developed a problem unrelated to unlocking. You'll have to get it repaired or replace it.

The first batch of razrs had a firmware fault causing it to reboot it self randomly, on a call or not, that could be it, or it could be just a defect, quadbands will work anywhere theres a gsm network, i wouldn't lock it, that would just piss him off.

He wants to re-lock and re-brand so he can return it apparently unmodified. I don't know of a Virgin mobile flex though.
I would be tempted to just put a stock moto flex on it and return it anyway.
If its just the lock there is software available for re-locking to most networks - but this is warez so I cannot give a link
The recall razrs weren't the first batch - just a batch from Jan/Feb this year - mostly affecting Cingular I believe

Why not go to Cingular? How long have you had your phone? Something similar happened to me last year, I called Cingular, they sent me a new phone and provided me a box to send the old one back to them. Easy and convenient, I didn't have to go without a phone.
