Does anyone know when will it be possible to change provider, but keep your current number?
This is possible in alot of places in Europe. Why doesn't US keep up with the cellphone technology?

it said it's November
but the providers say it'll cost billion for that
number portability made possible in Hong Kong 2000
T-Mobile will gain in the future, because it's growing fast

Number portability is supposedly going to take effect October 31st/November 1st according to the last time I spoke with a T-Mobile rep. There are some smaller providers that do offer number portability for a fee I believe.

I just want to confirm that only the new company you're getting service with needs to have number portability. If I want to switch to T-Mobile, but Cingular is slow with the times, they can just take Cingular's number...

you will be able to take your number with you starting November 24th...not only between wireless providers, but from your landline providers to a wireless providers...check out the FCC site for complete details.
