Hi there,
I just bought a Samsung x426 off ebay, it is a AT&T phone, but my service provider is Fido. When i put my fido card in...initally it says Sim Card Crash...then, i see a "sim Error" prompt.

This phone has firmware of x427 from cingular.

This is my version: rev s3 1.3a x47ucwj3

I called Fido and they think i put the sim card in backwards...i think their troubleshooting skills are backwards...anyway, i tried 'mallac reboot' but it still doesn't work...

How do i get it to work?

Thanks,

Yeah, I'll have to agree that Fido's support might be backwards. HOW CAN YOU fit in a SIM card backwards? There's a recess on the back of the phone that'll fit it ONLY one way.

I admit that a X427 Cingular firmware on a X426 AT&T frame is still somewhat suspect, but let's start with the basics:

Let me ask you something, is it possible that your SIM card is actually damaged? You can test this one out by sticking your SIM card in properly in other GSM phones and see if they can at least recognize your SIM instead of coming up in Error.

If not, something might be weird with the firmware. Reply back anyway.

I just got back from the Fido centre, the rep i had talk to earlier said that the error suggestion that my sim card was 'fried' and i would need to purchase a new one.

However, the person at the centre put her sim card (company sim card) in and it came up with the same error: sim crashed, contact service provider.

So, the sim card itself is fine, the issue is definetly the phone...any ideas?

Check the following thread:

http://forums.mobiledia.com/topic17980.html

Try that once, if it doesn't work, stop and don't retry as it may end up with the error - phone locked return to service.

If it doesn't work, you need a data cable. Another option is try the unlock service from cellphone accessories stores.

"popped sim?" - what exactly do you mean by this?

If it really doesn't work, you have two choices:

Both cases involve hoping for the best.

1) You can buy another phone and hope for the best, whether you buy it through official channels or through eBay again (because even "officially" sold phones can be defective too)

2) You can try to flash your phone with a known good firmware and try again. This one involves some time and requires you to have an OEM Serial cable.

ok, this I dont mind trying - what will i be doing essentially?

Where do i get the 'good firmware'? Is there a risk that this phone will not work at all afterwards?..if there is a site with insturctions cuz that would be great...where do I get a OEM Serial Cable?..is that the same as a Data cable?

Please let me know, I really like to get this up and running as soon as possible...

I can be reached by email here, info@ksilks.com or i will just keep checking this forum icon_cool.gif
