All the articles I have read on the subject, say that the call quality of the CDMA is lower because all callers use the same frequencies in the same time, but your call is the one you hear, because the others are suppressed and are being just a low noise on your line, that usually does not bother the users.
to quote from one article:
"Channel data rates are very high on CDMA, but sel-jamming is a mojor problem."

No, that is not true, Actualy call quality is usualy better or higher. I have better call quality with verizon than I did with T-Mobile. Also Verizon has the Nations Most Reliable Network.

call quality between the two is due to your geographic location, the device your using, etc. looking at the two technologies for their respective pros and cons, GSM does offer more.
also, more countries are not "starting to use it" CDMA is mainly deployed in the US and parts of Asia. Asia does also operate GSM will be handing out 3G liscences later this year.
GSM accounts for 74% of the world's wireless market.

if you're talking about GSM being older than CDMA, it doesn't really matter which is older, but provides the better service.
and if that is what you mean, CDMA IS older than GSM. wireless diverged from AMPS with some providers going CDMA, others going TDMA. GSM was a hardware and software overlay over the existing TDMA network, but a new technology.
