You could normally use every other ringtone... the 6256i is only a custumized version of the 6255 for Verizon.

When I went to the VzW website to see what was offered as ringtones for this phone, the choice was VERY small. I also went to several ringtone sites (not VzW) and didn't find any song/melody/sound that I liked. I want to be able to send a ringtone to my TONES folder and just select that tone for my 6256i. I don't know how to do it in any other way which would require me tinkering with the sound file. -Kismet

(he states, he can use mp3s as ringtone without problems)

Thank you, danke, spaciba, arigato, gracias, merci, and efharisto!
I do have BlueTooth and with this model, the OBEX profile was NOT disabled by VzW. So, if that second URL/website is correct, I should be able to do a file transfer to my 6256i.
Question: Where is it possible to get MP3 tones? Don't they all ask you to give your cell phone number so that they can download it from the site to the cell? I would not want that. I want to get an MP3 ringtond uploaded onto my iMac and from there, upload it to my phone.
And then this brings up the subject of how to SHORTEN the ring tone.

That are normally websites where you have to pay for the ringtone.
I've also read on some other sites, that the ringtone (format doesn't matter) has to be protected (can be seen in the attributes of the tone on the phone).
For Windows I know alot tools...
You might wanna take a look here:
http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/
Maybe you find a soundfile-editor.

Thank you. I went to the Versiontracker site and got some ideas as to what is out there for what I want to do. I appreciate your assistance. -Kismet

This is what someone has told me about ringtones with VzW:
" Nokia's DRM(Digital Rights Management) program prevents you from assigning any mp3 tone in you music folder as a ringtone. You can download as much music as you can fit but you can only listen to it and not transfer the files. Nokia's website can explain it better.Sorry to give the bad news."
