Phone Model: Motorola V3 RAZR Black

OK so here's the deal: I just picked up my 4th (and by far nicest) Cingular phone, a black Motorola V3 RAZR. I'm not too interested in video recording or expanded memory. What I do want to do is transfer pictures and mp3's for use as wallpaper and ringtones. The phone is, as far as I can tell, SIM locked, so it will only work with Cingular. It has firmware version R374_G_0E.41.C3R_B.
Am I on the right track by trying to use Motorols'a MPT software?
If so, I'm having some difficulties. First off, I have v. 3.20f. MPT will not see the phone. The only way I can get some life out of it is by cycling power on the phone. If I do that, the status bar for detecting the phone moves along to about halfway, then hangs. Eventually it gives up trying to find the phone, and gives me the option to cancel the detection process, or retry. Cancelling brings up a generic phone design, and none of the features are available. (Duh.) Retrying nets the same results over and over again. My questions are: Will MPT 3.20f work with the V3? Do I need an MPT-specific driver? If so, where can I find it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bump because I found a driver and I still can't make my computer see the thing.
Windows XP Pro SP1a
USB 2.0
No anti-virus or anti-spyware.
MPT v. 3.20f
The only time my computer sees this phone is while the phone's powering on. If I wait for the phone to come on, then connect it, I get nothing.

I have been doing much reading about this issue since I too wish to download ringtones, etc. into my new Razr--and my meager understanding is that some people are lucky and MPT works fine via USB, some are able to download a driver into the computer and that helps, but apparently the best success is by adding a BlueTooth dongle to a USB port on the computer and allow communication between the phone and computer via BlueTooth which is said to work very well--but that is anecdotal since I have no first hand experience (that experience should happen within a couple of weeks). Good luck

Thanks for the info MikeSP... Have you gotten your RAZR to talk to your computer at all? If so, how so? I've tried 2 different USB A -> mini B cables for different cameras, thinking I was having a cable problem... no such luck.
Also, can anyone who's tried it confirm that bluetooth will work better than USB for this project?

First of all, do not use your font USB port, use the back one.
When it not connect to your fone and failed to initialized, a picture of a fone will pop up on the desk top scree.
Now treat that pic like a real fone. here we go
click on menu bar--> set up--> general set up (F6)-->communication--> modem exchange--> choos from list--> choose Motorola GSM on your left then look for v3 on your right, select it then click finish . It should work now.
Good luck

Am curious why not to use one of my front USB ports--they come off of the motherboard at the same location as the rear USB ports on my Asus P4C800E-D mobo??
MPT supposedly is on the way--so I should soon find out how successful (or NOT) I will be.
Anyone know if there is a new Ver. 4.x of MPT??

Thanks for the help guys... I still can't get my RAZR connected, although i did get MPT configured for it... and now it shows the picture of my phone. Keep us posted and let us know how it works out for you MikeSP.
I may be able to shed some light on the USB port question... rear USB ports are usually soldered directly to the motherboard (or a PCI card) whereas front USB ports are connected with wires. USB 2.0 has very specific requirements for cable type and length, and a lot of the time the cables used for the interconnect do not conform. That coupled with all the EMI noise sure to be floating around inside a computer case can cause a front USB "2.0" port to catch interference and with the relatively low noise tolerances built into USB, slow down. The RAZR reqiures a low-noise USB line, so that may be part of the issue. Which reminds me... I think I'ma try a new cable... I'll post back when I figure it out.

I was having same problem with MPT not recognizing it and found this on another forum. MPT would recognized that something had been plugged in, but after thinking for about 5 minutes it would just kick out saying it didnt find anything.
I plugged my phone and data cable in and then used the windows popup installer thing and directed it to the folder where I had the razr driver (google it and you'll find it) and pointed it at that directory. After windows installed and recognized it as a razr modem, then ran MPT and it recognized it pretty quickly and I was off.
Oh, also I had put the razr driver in the same folder as my p2k drivers, so not sure which drivers it used, but it worked regardless.
Hope that helps. Now if I can just get p2k to recognize I have a phone hooked up...
