I'm starting to loose the plot with this, so thought I'd ask for some professional help!
I have installed & updated Mobile PhoneTools on my Dell with XP but no matter which port I use to connect USB data cable, I do not get the New Device Installation Wizard that I should do so the MPT can recognise my V3......
All the noob guides I have read (about 27 of them so far!!) all come to a stage where the mobile should be plugged into PC and the PC should automatically detect the phone & it's not doing this....I have tried with 2 different USB cables, tried installing/uninstalling & reinstalling all the drivers needed, tried Motorolla iMegaPack, tried uninstalling & re-installing the MPTs from the CD (it is a genuine bought Motorolla MPT CD)....tried adding the hardware manually, etc, etc.....
It's like the COM ports are not working....there is no "bing" from my PC to say device is connected.....does anyone have any ideas, or know how I configure them? Please help!!
Thanks xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

have you try to power off fone then power it on right back on during MPT detection process?

Hello there Old_Fool,
Yes, I tried that a couple of times....
I noticed with other devices (printer and so on) the PC makes a bing noise when they are connected & the Device Installation Wizard Appears....but that isn't happening when I connect phone.....not sure if it matters but it feels relevant.......

With fone plug in, go to device manager and looking for motorola USB modem then do driver update--> choose specific location then point it to sample C:\program\mpt\inf.
Regardless...the computer should have some sort of sign to tell you when and when not the phone is plugged in. Such ass the front LCD backlight turning on, computer "bing" noise, or the device manager refreshing. Try opening device manager and look for the phone that way, if still nothing then somethings disabled possibly, or just the little USB ports dirty on the phone. There must be a way, and is there any other PC's available for you to test this on?

Done that already....the modem is Motorolla phone....the file path to driver is C:\Program Files\mobile PhoneTools\Inf\W2K_XP_USB_Drivers
Is that OK?

Hi there veilfore89, that's what I thought.....I thought I'd read that the phone should charge when plugged in at least...and it's not even doing that....
The modem options I have on Device manager are my intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem..which I presume is my normal broadband connection....and Motorola Phone....my COM port is 1 which is the port I have assigned to the Phone modem.....I have 5 USB controllers...all active plus 5 USB root hubs to go with them....should I disable some of these?
Everything is enabled and working according to Device Manager.....how do I check if COM ports have been disabled - can they be disabled from somewhere other than the Device Manager as it shows COM 1 is enabled...? Which driver should the COM port be using?
Thanks for your help, I was starting to loose the will to live! lol!!

Oh, I meant to add...I read on the windows Help & Support pages that some devices wouldn't work without a digitally signed driver.....could this be affecting things? And no, I don't have any other PC's I could use to test.....
The ports were working fine a couple of weeks ago so I think it must be something I've done - how could I clean them anyway?
