They need to rebuild all after Katrina, they lost their switch and have been using T-Mobiles network while still showing their name branding. How Tacky!

In Los Angeles - horrible reception. I've noticed the problem when I was told I need a 3g card. After I got the card I had reception issues. Couldn't figure it out for the longest time, until one day I tried to set my nokia n91 on manual network selection. The two choices were Cingular and Cingular. Whenever I picked the second singular - reception was great (back to normal). For some reason (and for the life of me I cannot figure why Cingular would do this), by default the automatic network selection would default to what seems to be the old AT&T network. I used to make fun of people with AT&T but the joke is on me now On my Nokia N91 it worked fine with manual (even though I had to redo it every time i restarted the phone) but now I got a new phone O2 Xinc. THIS IS WHERE MY PROBLEMS REALLY STARTED. This phone when set to manual gives me two choices. AT&T which is the default choice (when set on auto and overrides even if it has no reception), and second choice Cingular. If i try to set on Cingular I get a message "Unable to register on selected network" - so I cannot select it. I also have another setting 2G/3G/Automatic if set on anything other than 2G it does not find any network at all, which is strange also since I heard that Cingular is on 3G now. Why would Cingular force its customers to use their newly acquired HORRIBLE AT&T network boggles my mind when they have a perfectly good network working.
If anyone can offer any help on how to set my O2 Xinc (Pocket PC Windows Mobile 5.0) on manual selection so I can choose the old Cingular network, please post. My only choice now is to set on Auto and get the AT&T Wireless network.

I have a Cingular family plan and cannot get decent reception in Gainesville. We've tried several phones and cannot fix the problem. Is it Cingular? The phone? Anyone know which phone or carrier works best in Florida/Gainsville?

In response to Stikyy, a recent independent study showed that the legacy AT&T network has extremely low dropped calls, while Cingulars native system showed the second highest behind only Nextel.

Hard to call Team Mobile top of the line, they only work off of the 1900mhz bands so they are awful when in rural areas, and last time I checked this is America where there are still a LOT of rural areas. Would you like to stop at someones house in the middle of the Kentucky hills because you had no service on your phone? Cingular is the company with the highest amount of subscribers, how long do you think that would last if they consistently had bad service all over. If you look, I'm sure you will find instances of unhappy customers on all networks, and much of that will have to do with regions in which they have some but not extensive coverage. A broad statement about on company sucking while others are top of the line does not show a lot of thought involved.
