Hello everyone,
A few months ago, I purchased a generic data cable for my V265 so I could use my cell phone as a modem for my laptop. It didn't work, so a couple of days ago I bought an actual Motorola data cable with Motorola Phone Tools 3.0. However, when I open my phone tools, it never recognizes my phone. It makes the sound like it is connecting, but I get nothing. I have tried it on 2 different computers, used 2 different USB cables, and even tried it with a V260.
Can someone please tell me what, if anything, I am doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
~Barry
EDIT: Please read the whole thread. My main question has been resolved. The bottom post on this page is where I am at now.

have you uninstalled the MPT and made sure the phone modem entry with driver is uninstalled within device menu ?
then try to reinstall the MPT before plugging in ure phone ... then when you run MPT and it requests connection to ure phone plug ure phone in and go through the instalation process of ure phone again from scratch automatically thru MPT?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times. The last time, I ran everything with it unplugged, got the automatic updates, clicked usb, plugged it in when it told me to, but it never detected anything.....at all.

I will try that next. I am really not sure what to do, but I will see what I can do.
EDIT:
It is now semi-working. It loads up and I see the image of my phone. When I go to my phone book, it reads the contact categories fine, but gives an error while reading the entries:
Reading Mobile Phone's Contacs Failed.
So, I am not sure if it is working right or not.

I believe there are 6 different drivers I need from what I have read.
However, these are the only (very vague) instructions I can find:
Open PST – There will be several driver installs….Browse to the PST folder for the first one, then you can let it do automatic for the rest of them. Close PST and unplug the phone. Plug phone back in and start PST, it will install one more driver. Close PST and unplug phone.
I still have the error with my phone book. I will post a screen of it in a little while. Here are my PST screens:
PST Program Folder
PST Framework--This comes up when I try to open almost anything from my PST program folder in my taskbar.
PST Error--This comes up after 3 unsuccessful attempts from the PST Framework.
Please help. I've got one heck of a headache with this.

i thought u only had a problem with MPT?
now ure telling me uve installed pst and drivers
I spent five days constantly researching how to get pst to recognise my phone ....
it is a massive job investigating the tons and tons of different tutorials on the net with links that dont work and vague instructions.....
What i suggest you do is delete everything and get MST working first
that includes all modem drivers for your phone in device manager ....if you cant get MST working its pointless going to the next stage.

I had them uninstalled. I only tried them when I though MST was working. I don't know what to do. Now, my phone is not even recognizing in MST anymore.
EDIT:
I've got it recognizing in MST again. However, I still cannot view my phonebook:
Phonebook Error
If I uninstall the modem, MST no longer recognizes my phone.

OK. I have now installed all 6 drivers. Am I supposed to use the phone programmer or the or what when I am told to open PST:
Plug phone back in and start PST, it will install one more driver. Close PST and unplug phone.
EDIT: MST is now fully working. I am able to view all 231 contacts from my phone book.
Now, on to "hacking" my cell phone.
I have the below steps that I am trying to follow:
| Quote: | Install PST, but don’t reboot when prompted. (Ignore the “Triplets” file that is included). If your are running XP SP2, you will get two errors after telling it not to reboot – ignore them, they are Win Updates that would install if they weren’t already on your computer.
Install MPT. Start MPT – click OK when profile box pops up, then cancel the wizard that pops up. This should bring up a little picture of a phone. Click on “Menu Setup Live Update and download all three updates reboot when prompted (some updates will install prior to rebooting, the rest will install after the reboot).
Start MPT again. At the wizard, make sure USB Cable is checked then click Next and plug your phone in. All should install automatically.
Now click Menu Setup General Setup Communications Tab Change Modem Button Next Highlight the Motorola USB Modem Next Check Do Not Automatically Detect…. Next Highlight Motorola CDMA then Motorola – V265M (the “M” is important, make sure you don’t click plain V265) Next Finish OK.
You should now see the media icon in the right tray but don’t click on it yet as we must enable the phone before it will work. Close MPT.
Open PST – There will be several driver installs….Browse to the PST folder for the first one, then you can let it do automatic for the rest of them. Close PST and unplug the phone. Plug phone back in and start PST, it will install one more driver. Close PST and unplug phone.
Plug phone in and start PST (I know, this is where you were just at, but we need to make sure everything hooks up properly before moving on - you should hear the USB connection sound when you plug phone in, then a flurry of them when you start PST, if you don't, reboot all)…. Leave PST running in background during the remainder of this process. Unzip p2KMan and p2kSeem, no install as they run from their folder.
Open p2kMan. (For both p2kMan and p2kSeem, make sure it says “Connected” in lower left corner, if it doesn’t, unhook phone and try again, reboot if necessary). Above “Download Seem” button, enter 041a to 041a then click the download seem button – save it in a safe place for a backup. (Don’t change the filename {xxxx_yyyy} in download box, it will save under its correct name). Close p2kMan.
Open p2kSeem. Blank the “Bytes (h)” box and insure Load Seem is 041a Record 0001 (41a Record 1 works too) Click “Load from Phone”. Look for offset 006A (near bottom right of cluster of characters). Change the “E2” to “E3” then click "Save to Phone" and then click “Restart Phone”.
Shut down everything, reboot phone and computer.
Plug phone in, start MPT and your file transfer should be enabled
Note: After you upload a ringtone or picture, it will NOT show up in the MPT screen, but it will be in the phone when you look – the only thing I can see from the PC side is pictures taken by the phone.
Bonus: I had a time with this one too - to change the inside banner to the date:
First back up seem "296a_0005.seem' - this will restore the banner if needed (use same process as backing up seem 041a above - put in 296a, there are a lot of files in this seem, you just need to save record 5, I don't see a way to download an individual record).
Now open PST. Click File New CDMA Enhanced Roaming Indicator File OK. Now click Phone Read and wait for it to finish. Now click Phone write and let it finish. Now click Restart Phone. It seems odd to me that you read then write without changing anything, but it worked on both V265's I've tried it on.
If you go on to seem editing for other reasons, use the seem backup process above to backup any seem you want to mess with before messing with it!
Good Luck! |
They can be found here. However, that topic is VERY old. So, can someone please give me the steps needed to finish this. It's not that I am too cheap to pay for ringtones; I have already bought 20 dollards worth from verizon's get it now. I simply want Smells Like Teen Spirit and the Imperial Death March. I can not find them on Get It Now!
I believe I have all the required tools and programs:
Tools you need:
1. A data cable (Motorola Brand with power input)
2. Motorola’s Mobile Phone Tools software (I have version 3.0 with all updates. Everything is working.)
3. P2kman software (I have a version I downloaded from a .zip link I saw on here. I also have the P2k drivers.)
4. PST phone programming software (I have version 7.2.3)
However, when PST tries to "Establish Connection With Motorola Phone," I do not think it does. I don't get an error, but when I trie to open P2k, it does it 3 times, and then gives an error.
I have made a lot of progress. Please, someone (who knows a lot more about this than I do) help me.
