I am a former AT&T customer using a Nokia 6200 phone with an AT&T Sim Card...like everyone else, I now have migrated over to a Cingular account.
I recently purchased a Samsung SGH-x497 phone from my son-- it's only 3 months old, as he has upgraded to a different model. He had a Cingular account with this phone and it used a Cingular Sim Card which he removed and installed into his new phone. I tried installing my AT&T Sim Card into it, only to find it non-functional. I then visited a local Cingular store to see if I could turn in my AT&T Sim card for a Cingular sim card which would make this phone work....I was told this is not possible... The only way I can make this Samsung phone work would be to sign up for a new Cingular plan and pay more per month since my former AT&T plan is still cheaper than any Cingular plan they can offer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

you need to have the x497 unlocked to accept your ATT simcard

Yes....I not only need the x497 unlocked (I can only do it temporarily), but the sim card as well so the two can be integrated together.

the simcard is the key in the authentication riddle... your ATT sim is driven by the ATT billing system...the cingular sim is driven by the Cingular billing system... you cannot have 2 sims active for the same number...its immaterial if you are cingular or ATT...period

you only need to unlock the phone.
once the phone is unlocked, it will accept a sim card from any provider, including your ATTW sim. you don't need to modify your sim card in any way.
