My daughter has had a 350 for christmas, and I bought a data cable to enable her to transfer stuff from PC to phone and vice versa (or so I thought). However obeying the instructions to the letter for connecting the phone cable to the pc usb, it just acts as if nothing is connecting.
If I connect the phone to the cable, it searches for phone modem software. The phone is shown charging off the USB, but the software says it is "off line" can someone please tell me how to get it "on line" It must be really easy, and obvious, but I can't see it. There is just blank pages for the phone book and the options to "download pics" or "upload pics" (plus any transfers) are all greyed out.
I am loath to take the cable back to the shop, as the phone is charging, it must be OK.
Please help

I had a smiliar problem with my SGH x480. what was wrong was, I had a non-compatible connector. it was a serial to USB connecter just as u have mentioned. I went to Samsung showroom and they advised to buy an original one (serial to COM). and believe me, it works fine now.

Dave1510 we too are in the same boat as our child too had a 350 for christmas, and we bought a Samsung PC data link kit model SGH D500 which we were reliably informed by the Orange provider was compatible with the E350e . However, this seems not to be the case having downloaded the driver and the PC Studio the phone when connected to the USB shows as offline. Could someone please confirm that the data link SGH D500 is compatible with the E350e

if your data cable is charging your phone then it is in correct working order, together with your phone you would have gotten a easy studio cd, the phone modem software you are looking for is on there! hope this helps

I did a bit of searching and had a look here,
http://www.mobileplace.co.uk/product/samsung_d500_d600_e350_cable.html
The cable I had, was supposed to bring up the "add new hardware wizard" as soon as the cable was plugged into the USB port [without even the phone being plugged in] but it didn't. The retailer said they had had trouble as this phone is very new - but the cable should have registered whatever the phone! - I took it back, the retailer swapped it for an IR device; This is being delisted from the manufacturers site, and although I could download E350 software, I could not get it for the particular IR device. So... back to the retailer for a refund I think. Please keep posting, I'll keep trying to sort this.
Thanx

I took the IR device back, and now have an IR device to match the software I downloaded (I have yet to try it) but... I was informed that if this fails to work, my next option is a Serial Port cable. Isn't this a backwards step? - I thought serial ports went out with Windows 3.1 !

The second IR device works OK (Hurrah!)
However I would still prefer a cable option if anyone finds a good one (that works)
Thanx

Although I haev a different model, this happened to me as well! I used the PC Studio 2.0 program disc that came with my phone (Samsung e730), but it wouldn't recognize my phone. I kept reinstalling the usb driver, but it wouldn't work. Then somewhere, it told me to add in the Samsung GPRS model thingy in my control panel > model/fax icon. After that, I restarted my computer and it worked! I don't know if what I said made any sense, but I was able to initiate the COM4 port and it recognized my phone.
Despite having a different phone model, what I did should be similar, since PC Studio is now the new version easy GPRS and other people have got it working with different phone models. Keep in mind that when I say others, I refer to other forums that I spent a few hours searching through i which to get my usb data cable working.
