My carrier is T-mobile and I have a T-mobile phone, but I have a faulty T-mobile sim card, however I have an new unactivated cingular sim card I got from a friend who doesn't need it, can I just swap the sim card and call t-mobile to activate the cingular sim? Do I need to unlock my phone first?
Thanks

no...if you have t-mo service, you need to have a t-mo sim.

I have about the same problem.... I have an old T-Mo phone w/ unlock code but I don't have a SIM so I can't get to the main screen which will let me type in the unlock code so I can use my CIngular sim on it. How do I bypass the "Insert SIM" screen so I can type in the unlock code?
I think this is along the same lines as the OP.

You just start putting in the unlock code at the "Insert SIM" screen and it will work.

First post, A cingular sim only works on cingular network, T-mo sim on T-mo, . (period)
Second post, to unlock your phone (assuming you have a valid subsidy unlock code for the IMEI of your phone) usually just put an ACTIVE sim from another carrier in the device, it will ask for the code. Make sure you enter it correctly.
