Be very careful with this cable as the compatible models to X495 are:
E335 / E635 / X495 / X497
But it is not compatible to X475, X427 or E316
Is there any label on the cable?
As for the driver, there are many different driver for different device, you need to know what device is used in the cable first. Try asking the cable supplier for the link to the driver. Also confirm with them if the cable is compatible to X495. They probably are supplying 2 different kinds of cable.

Why not ask them directly for the driver or link to the driver. As far as I know, there are different devices like Prolific, OTI, TI and may be more.

I actually bought a very similar cable (same seller) and it is an OTI cable. I have been fiddling with settings/software variations for a few hours now and I cannot get anything to work. My model is a T309, which the ebay advert claims the cable is compatible with. When using EasyGPRS and the PC Studio, the phone charges nicely as soon as it is connected, but it remains in "offline" mode. I can't seem to find any way possible to view my filesystem/phonebook/etc. Any clues/ideas? (The steps from the Datacablehelp.com site did not work, yet type/label match perfectly.)
On a side note, is there any software outside of the Samsung PC Suite (or the Mobile Action suite since that requires their own cable) claiming to support the t309? I can't seem to find any.
edit: The cable actually seems to be the exact same one for both auctions. Should this be so or is the description misleading?

It doesn't seem right. According to the information from Mobileaction, the compatible models to T309 for the cable should be:
D500 / D508 / D600 / E350 / E358 / E730 / E738 / E760 / P735 / T309
It seems like you got the wrong cable.

The funny part is that my phone does charge perfectly fine when I run the EasyGPRS/PC Suite and the program autodetects the COM ports. I just simply can't access the phonebook/other features. Would that be a problem with the cable? It fits perfectly and doesn't appear faulty as it does charge the phone. Or would this be a software problem?

There is a device in the cable that do the usb to serial bridge function. When you connect the cable to the PC, it recognize the device and assigned a COM port to it. However, even most Samsung phone has the same data connectors for connecting it to the data cable, different model has different pin outs. That is why we need a compatible cable. Having a charging indication doesn't mean the cable is compatible. As an example, the first cable that I bought for my E316 gave the same charge indication but actually it is not compatible to my E316. It turned out that the compatible one for my E316 doesn't has charge function.
