YES! The driver for the cable has installed correctly. Havn't checked it with the phone yet, but i'll do it tonight.
Here's what I did:
I was looking at the files on the disk, and saw there was 2 drivers under XP - 'UIR1100B' and 'UIR1100W'. Whenever the driver was trying to install automatically, it was using the file 'UIR1100W'. The cable model is UIR1100B, so I guessed that it wasn't working because it was trying to use the wrong driver. So I copied the 'UIR1100B' driver file to my computer, and manually showed the 'add new hardware' wizard which file to use. However, it was still refusing to accept anything other than the 'UIR1100W' file. So what I did was renamed the 'UIR1100B' to 'UIR1100W', and it installed without a hitch.
Obviously the real test will be seeing if the phone works, so Ill test that tonight and post the results.

Ah, if there is a "!" at the beginning of the line for the driver, that means the driver is not correct for the cable. If it automatically selects UIR1100W during driver installation, I would believe it is the right driver rather than the UIR1100B even that is what is marked on the cable. Anyway, if the UIR1100B driver works, just leave it as is. Otherwise, uninstall it and re-install it with UIR1100W.

It works fine now. A quick question about PIMS though - how do I get the phone book, SMS etc off the phone and onto the computer? If the phone got wiped, could I then put them back on?

Click F1 in PIMS and it will open the help manual. I am sure you can copy the phone book to the computer but I am not sure for SMS.

OK, the phone's connecting to the computer, but when transfering images it often times out and says "confirm connection:COM4" or something similar. Then phone's still connected on COM4, but the computer just stops seeing it.
Any ideas on how to make the connection more stable?

What speed is used in PIMS setup? 115200 should be the best speed. Try other speed and see if it makes any difference. Usually it is the quality of the cable that caused this kind of problem.
