Hi everyone,
I will be back in the US for about 6-8 months, but not long enough to sign a 1 or 2 year contract. I have an unlocked GSM triband phone I was using while living in Latin America, and used T Mobile pay-as-you-go (and still have the SIM card) the last time I was in the US short term.
But I really hate how T-Mobile charges me for incoming calls and listening to voicemail, and the per minute rates are pretty high (especially since they round up - a 10 second call can cost 33 cents!). I got a much better deal in Nicaragua (calls are charged at actual time, no charge for voicemail calls, and no charge for in-coming calls).
I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any providers that offer 6 month contracts, or of a better pre-paid deal than T-mobile. I'll be in Irvine, CA (and would prefer something with nationwide coverage for traveling).
It seems like the plans and 1-2 year service contracts have a real monopoly in the US - makes it hard for people who move around a lot (and don't have an employer picking up the tab).
Thanks very much for any suggestions!

why not go for the Cingular Go Phone? It's prepaid that acts like it's a plan. Not bad either compared to other prepaid services. There's no contract, and you can cut it off whenever you leave the US.

There are much less expensive prepaids. Daily fees or rates at $.25 per min are bad. Try tmobile to go. $40 phone and starter minutes. $100 gets you 1000 min that last a year. At $0.10 a min. There are many more options.
A true pay as you go prepaid shouldn't cost more then $30 per month or you are throwing $$$ out the window!!!
