Check out all the JD Power Awards and why T-Mobile beat out Verizon in their own back yard for that answer!
Another thought that might give a clue, as Verizon is the "Top" Dawg and T-Mobile is the smallest, why are they the one the other companies reference the most in their advertizing. Yeah they may not say the name but they use similarity or parity in the adds.

The better company is the one that covers where you use your phone the most!

T-mobile is the best with there price plans. Customer service is up there sometimes. Option to change phone with the simcard is priceless.

I've had both T-Mobile and Verizon. They each have their bad points and good points.
Verizon
-gets better coverage in buildings (especially in basements)
-has a larger coverage area
-has phones with more features such as having a flash on their camera phones
T-Mobile
-more practical
-you don't have to put in a password to check your voicemail
-has a simcard
-cheaper phones
-cheaper plans

never tried Verizon but TMOBILE SUX where I live! The service is very bad here. (it's good in towns though.) I've been through TracFone, T-Mobile, ALLTEL, Net10, and Cellular South. I've found that Cellular South is the best. One thing about tmobile... they are nice! Durin Katrina they gave me lots of free minutes
