Hi,
I was thinking about buy the Samsung S105 with T-Mobile plan. I live in San Jose area. Some of my friend told me that the reception in the area is very bad especially inside building.
Is this because the phone weak in reception or the service provider's issue?
Should I subscribe to T-Mobile?
Thank you,
Thomas

I've got the Samsung S-105 w/ T-Mobile out here in Salt Lake City. Reception-wise, it's a LOT better then the discontinued Samsung SGH-N105. I used to drop calls like no other with that phone. This phone does have problems inside certain buildings. It just depends on how they're built (with more metal beams etc.). Other then that, I haven't had too many problems. If you do get the phone however, T-Mobile does suggest that every so often you do a power cycle where you just shut off your phone for a few seconds and then turn it back on. This will help your phone find the nearest tower so that you get even better reception.
Hope this helps!

Does the "power cycle" work with all service providers and phones?

The power cycle does work with the GSM providers... dont know about the others. Sometimes your phone can get locked onto a tower. when you move away from it, it still searches for that one tower. If the power cycle doesnt work you can call Customer Service and get through to Tech support. They romove your phone from the network momentarily and reinsert it into the network. your phone then searches for the closest tower... Only seen that happen a few times though.

When I am at work, in the building, I get 0 or 1 bar... so when my phone gets stuck on 0 bars for a bit, it sticks at 0 for good. So even if I leave the building and drive around, I still get 0. I have to "power cycle" as T-Mobile puts it (trying to make "turn your phone off and back on" not sound so inconvenient).
My questions is, WHY???? This is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. What if I leave my phone in my pocket all day, then leave work, and never look at my phone... I can't get an emergency call about my wife or kid? That's crazy! Anyone know how to avoid this? Can't my phone (Motorola C650) just continuously check for service and check for the closets tower? What the???
I recently switched from Verizon, which didn't get service in my work building or my home, but it at least recognized when I left the building.
Thanks
Doug

Power cycling is not something that is Service Provider specific. Just because you went with Verizon doesnt mean that you do not have to do the same thing with their phones. Think of your phone as a computer, some times it slows down but if you restart it, it usually works alot better.

I could see the need to "power cycle" weekly or something... but if I'm at work in the building at 8:00am and I "power cycle", then hang out until 9:00am, then leave the building, my reception (bars) will stay at 0. It's only been an hour, so I don't think I should have to "power cycle" again already, but I do if I want reception.
Thanks

You should power cycle daily (once should do it usually) Thats weird that you cant get reception when you leave your building though, did tmobile say anything? besides power cycle. did you talk to a tech rep?

Something that may help would be checking your network selection settings (auto or manual)
