Hi folks...my first post here..i searched the site for this answer but could not find it.
I have the Cingular Pick your plan service. I had the T290A and recently purchased the Ericsson T610 off of ebay. Now when i inserted the simcard in it it does not connect to the network at all. I took it to cingular and they used a post-paid sim card and it worked fine but no matter what they tried they could not get the prepaid sim to work. They tried the 3G and 2G with no success. The phone is unlocked triband and should be fine on the 1900Mhz network. Does cingular operate the prepaid on 850 and postpaid on 1900? And is there any way i can make the phone work on 850. I cant find any option to chnage the network settings. I live in a small town but if the post paid works at 1900, I dont see why the prepaid should not work as well.
I am really at odds of what to do now because I really like the phone but i cannot get it working on the Cingular network. They tried changing the sim with the phone on and off as well as hotswapping it with my current phone and it works fine on my current one (the T290). Is there ANY way i can get this phone working with my prepaid plan? Has anyone had the same issue? ANY feedback is appreciated.
Thx and Great Forum

I don't have an answer for you, but am hoping that when you find your answer it's a good one!
I love Cingular's prepaid plan, but hate their phone selection.
I'm hoping I can get an unlocked phone and insert my prepaid SIM from them, but was looking to see if this was possible...

well i found a partial solution..
thx to my bad luck.. apparently only the t616 wil lwork with prepaid..
so if anyone wants to exchange a very slightly used t610 with charger and extra faceplate for there t616..let me know. u can use the t610 on any postpaid service..so u get a fairly brand new phone for ur used one..let me know if anyone wants it.
also if anyone has a workaround..that would be great too

the reason your T610 will not work on 850 is because it is a 900/1800/1900 only device... it does not have the capability for 850 mhz at all....

really quick update for u all who were wondering if different cellphones work in cingular prepaid plans.
i sold the t610 and got the t616 and it works fine!
so yes different cellphones do work. Just make sure the phone is capable of both 850/1900 Mhz frequency. Sometimes just being capable of 1900 doesnt work. Hope this helped other people who wanted a different phone other then the crap cingualr prepaid phones
