I live (73521) 50 miles away from another city (73501) that has a lot of cell phone providers. Here we only have three, US Cellular, Sprint, and CellularOne (quality in that order). In the other city, there is Cingular, T-Mobile, Verizon, and more. The phones with US Cellular, are subpar for me. I have done some researching and have come down to T-Mobile (top pick) and Cingular. I called both the 800 numbers and the reps there say, we haven't made it there yet, and the whole spill. I could'nt get a hold of the local Tmo rep, but visited the cingular store and they said I would be able to get GSM coverage. I am wanting a nice phone, with a national plan. Would coverage matter? The tmobile map online shows my zip being in the tmobile roaming, and cingular has orange at least 100 miles around me. Am I just screw-ed, or can I actually have coverage? Can any cell phone people help me out on this? I want to make sure I get my info straight.

So would getting tmobile or cingular be pointless? I will have to use us cellular? I know someone that has cingular, and he's from new york, but he has the national plan. one would think, if he has it, i would be able to get connected too.

cingular does not have coverage in your area. t-mobile may and if you know someone with cingular they may be roaming on t-mo. you can check the alpha tag.
if you sign up in a store 50 away from you, and they have a seperate area code, you will need to sign up with that city's area code.

Thanks all for replying. I checked on the tmo site and it said my number was eligible to be ported over. how do you know tmo is the dominant carrier over cingular? This is why i am asking. I want to know all that i can.

cingular has larger network coverage than t-mo, just not in your area.
man1234 is no expert, just his opinion.
if your cingular friend does have reception in your area, then the only thing would be looking at plans/phones from t-mo and cing to see what you like better.
