k500i IrDA problem

Hi there. I'm experiencing a strange problem trying to download files to my k500i using Infrared. When I try to send a file(directly from windows, or from FMA) there are to possible scenarios.
1)My k500i screen freezes untill i take it out of range,then it flickers for a while, and then it goes on to normal
2)It says i don't have enough free space in my memory(I do!!)
Things that should help .I'm using Sigmatel usb 2.0 IrDA Bridge, the drivers are ok. I can sebd files from my k500i to my pc without any problem. I can send files to other phones(already tried a sagem and a sharp)from my pc,i can send files from other phones to mine with infrared(apart from themes,strange heh?)
Any thoughts????

Hello There!

It seems to be some initialization problem with your phone.

Question 1:
Does Your Phone connect to the computer?
As you've mentioned that "when taken out-of-range", I assume that your phone gets detected. But does your computer indicate "K500 computer conneted via Infrared". If so then your phones Okay! at this stage.

Question 2:
Does Your Phone Have the similar communuication speed as the IrDa Device?
For example if your phone supports the communication speed of 11200bps it should be the same on the computers IrDa. IrDa should be configured so, if not the same.

Question 3:
What is your Operating System?
Your operating system too plays a prominent role.

Apart from the above queries, i think you better try these out.

1. Backup Your Data and Do a Master Reset.
2. Reset your Memory Card As well.

Then try starting the whole process from the beginning.

thanks for your advice but,
My phone does get detected as sony ericsson k500i and i guess if there was a problem with the speed of IrDA i would not be able neither to send nor to receive data. My phone sends all kind of data to my computer( Windows XP Pro SP2). I tried the master reset, now i can send vcards from my pc but i'm still not able to transfer pictures or midi files .After every master reset it comunicates for 5 or 10 mins before it starts freezing again ,but even the ones that get sent cant be displayed/played on my phone.I tried to send 2 or 3 themes(yes, i checked, they were k500i compatible) too but it says "File corrupt, it can't be used" .

As for the midi files and pictures, if i send them to another phone first through IrDA and then from that phone to mine ,everything is ok!!
That mobile is driving me nuts...

Is your Phone, under contract? Since I think it could be a configuration error on the phone for that you better simply get it flashed through the Company Service Center. They might do it for ZERO bucks. Once you've confirmed that the Software is clear, then you better check with the hardware section espectially the subject "IrDa Unit".

Above i've given a bit sophisticated methods. But if i'll tell you to check your phone with another IrDa Unit connected to the PC. That would be a bit better. Yet, you've mentioned about the successful attempts connecting a Sharp and a Sagem. So that wouldn't be a solution as well.

By the way, Haven't you tried any SonyEricssonTM PC software to transfer data. Something like the SonyIMageEditor and so on...? If so what happened?

But still if your phone freezes,it is some technical error that is connected to your IrDa unit integrated onto your phone. Therefore the best bet isto take it to the ServiceCentre.

Thanks for your replies and advice . It's still under guarantee so i'll have it checked at the shop i bought it from and see what comes of it. As soon ,of course, as i 've finished with these f@@@d mid term exams of mine
