Man you guys are geniouses! My fiance's dad uses Tmobile, he lost his phone on a trip, asked if I could send him his old phone, but it's 2 hours away. I have a Samsung SCH-A670 (Verizon) that is practically brand new, and offered that but he does't think it is compatible. Is it? Does it need to be unlocked or something?
I appreciate the help guys, great forum!

a verizon phone won't work on a t-mobile account. t-mo runs GSM and verizon is CDMA. the two technologies don't mix. he needs a GSM phone to work with his account.

The back of the phone says, Dual Mode GMS/GPRS.

if the phone says GSM it's not a verizon phone. but if it's a GSM phone (does it take a sim card?) then it will work with your dad's account.

Sprint and Verizon, allthough both CDMA wont activate a phone that isn't their own. They will only acivate a branded phone that is on their ESN list.

Well, if OP had a Samsung SCH-a795, he'd be in luck:
dual-mode CDMA 1900/800 and GSM 900/1800.

My company sold Verizon phones breifly but this area isn't very good for Verizon, so we switched to AllTel which works much better. Being stuck with all the phones we attempted selling the Verizon phones to our AllTel customers, unfortunately every time the AllTel programmed phone went into a Verizon owned area it woul revert back to Verizon's software and need to get reprogrammed back to AllTel to work properly again. We ended eating a lot of phones that way.
