First on my list would be Cellular South.
I don't like T-Mobile cause it don't get good service where I live, but it does ok in town. The thing about tmobile, it can have 2 or 3 bars outside my house but when I step JUST inside it looses it all. So I got rid of the tmobile. ALLTEL is pretty good, I've only been 2 places where I didn't have service with it. But the charges were a rip-off compared to Cellular South, so now I am with Cellular South and I've found that it's the best where I live.

The first company I was ever with was Sprint. I'm not going to say anymore about it than it was a complete waste of time and money.
I switched to AT&T (which later switched me to Cingular) and I've been happy since.

Our phones worked well when we were the ATT version before the change to Cingular, and our Alltel phones were great until the tower wars with our local government. Now our Alltel bounces around from digital to analog, full signal to no service but ask Alltel customer service and they say there has been no changes to the service or system. The phones of my youth worked as well or better than the ones we currently have.
I still have those phones and the string between the tin cans is still attached but can no longer find the wax to apply to the string.

I guess it is all relative to your location. Here in the fly over states their coverage leaves alot to be desired. Our office is in Arkansas and all the phones were bought there. ATT/Cingular was happy to take our contract and ship the phones to the different locataions, so they knew what areas the coverage was needed. Funny thing is if you go to a Cingular store and seek new service once you furnish them with your address they will not sign you up because they have no coverage in this area. When I go to major metropolitan areas my Cingular phone works well. I guess living in small town America is worth the price of poor or no cell coverage.

I have had Verizon for about a year now, and it's been great. I live in northern Ohio and whenever friends come over, they have little service or no with service providers such as Cingular and T-Mobile (T-Mobile expecially).
I do like Cingular's phone's over Verizon though, like the SL VR (which will hopefulyl be available to Verizon soon -.-')

In my line of work (cell phones) i have worked for every company and owned one of their phones my least fav is stinkular i mean cingular my favorite is a toss up between verizon and t-mobile t-mobile works great as long as your in a mjaor metroplis once you get into the sticks is when you lose singal nextel chirp service is awsome but the phone service sux and if you have a problem with you phine that you cant fix yourself your better off buying a new phone cause finding a repair station is a bitch sprint is ass checks the only good thing about sprint is their low credit checks and their phones thats it ready link sux their online tv sux but their downloadables (such as ringtones and wallpapers) are awsome but that about does it so if you want good service be prepared to pay for it with verizon and if you want a lot of minutes for litlle money go t-mobile and thats all i have to say about that

1. Sprint
2. Verizon
3 . Nextel
4. U S Cellular
5. Cingular
6. Att
7 . T Mobile
and That's All The Carriers I've Had So Far I Like Sprint The Best!
