Hi there...i have a comment about my 3650 phone...starting as a comment im sure it will end up as a number of questions...

Firstly, when I got my spanking new 3650 i have to say I was absolutly impressed with all the bells & whistles (at least compared to my last one)...i spent the week just fiddleing with it, trying to get a sense of how to navigate it etc...

Then i took some time and read the 'manual' that came with the phone...everything seemed to be nice and dandy untill I started using the 'pc suite' (connected with infrared)...connected is definetly the wrong word here. Because 'connected' implies communication for some acceptable amount of time....and that definetly didn't happen with my phone and laptop.

I have had nothing but problems getting this program to work with my phone, yes i have installed it, then reinstalled it, changed the connection speeds, upgraded my pc suite softward (from nokia), used the cd (from nokia), checked this forum numberous times, and done all of the suggestions i could find...plain and simple, pc suite with IR just isn't that effective with me.

The only reason why i even spent so much time on trying to set it up was that I wanted to transfer mp3's to waves files and listen to the terrible mono music i keep reading about...but it seems i cant get that done with IR.

So..i guess my question is...should i invest my time into a mmc reader or should i get bluetooth. Im not even completly sure how blue tooth works to be honest...is it just a device that plugs into my laptop? (is it comperable to infrared)?....cuz based on my experience im not sure thats a good thing...

Please advise...

Just to be sure: you really point the two infrared-devices to each other so they can communicate? We had some people already here who faced the phone the wrong way to the IrDA device...

Well you can get bluetooth, but that can get messy with the connection too.
A card reader would be the fastest solution for uploading, the conversion of the files to compatible .wav-files can also be done with an audio editing tool.

And bluetooth is not compatible with IrDA, two different systems.

Yep...pointed at each other...so close they are kissing..then tried at various distances inbetween. Its not that it NEVER worked....it just never worked for long. It works on the initial install when i have to name the phone in PC Suite...then after i log off and every time after that..consistently 'disconnected' and 'offline'. Even though its listed as 'connected' inthe connection manager...excuse me while i smirk every time i use the work 'connected'.

Anyway, I've tried 'winamp' to convert my mp3's to wave...whoa...4 meg file jumped to 52 megs...I guess this is not a viable option anymore...i guess ill have to scramble to get ultramp3 or mp3go from this point...

IF anyone has either ULTRAMP3 or MP3GO, can you email them to me at: info@ksilks.com ??

Im entering level 5 fustration and you would be doing me a huge favor. I know IR and Blue Tooth arnt compatable, i wanted to know if they were comparable in terms of connectivity/configuration.

Buy the mp3-players if you want them.

You can use different codec for .wav files, the normal PCM will give you uncompressed audio as youalready encountered.
And Winamp is a audio player, not an editing tool icon_wink.gif.
I personal prefer Goldwave.
A real editing tool lets you choose the codec you want to use. The codec you should use is IMA ADPCM.

Bluetooth has the advantage that you don't have to point the devices to each other. In my opinion it is harder to configure because you've to configure the connection especially, not really plug&play. This frustrates some users because they can't make it work.
Tip: don't get a dongle with BlueSoleil-Software, they won't work with your phone.

Good to know...i'll be investing in the bluetooth adapter then, not the BlueSoleil one of course. So am i wrong in assuming I will still need to be using "Pc Suite" inorder to transfer my files from computer to phone?

I've seen alot of talk on this forum suggesting that using pc suite to transfer files is preferable then using "Windows" - what is the advantage?

Well, it is advised to use PC Suite because you can exactly upload stuff to the MMC. When you only send the stuff over to the phone withou PC Suite (which is possible) the file will be save in the message inbox in the internal memory and you would need a file manager like FExplorer (recommend; it's for free) to move the file from the inbox to other folders. Also the internal memory is quite limited.

You can also try alternative software like Oxygen Phone Manager II for Symbian OS.

Excellent advice! I now have the "FExplorer" installed - I've transfered a couple of .wav files to my E:/Drive....once there, how do I get "Sound Recorder" to open them?

Before I have the .wav files downloaded to my 'messages' folder and sound recorder automatically played the files. But now with "FExplorer" I cant seem to figure out how to get Sound Recorder or even RealPLayer to play files that have been transfered. How do I change that?

Normally by just opening them via FExplorer like you know it from your computer or by browsing the memory card with the player software.
