today i returned to verizon to replace my old vx8100 because the screen broke, i get a new one, put in my mini SD card. all my pictures and videos are recognized, but none of my mp3s are. i format the card and put an mp3 on again, nothing. it says *no songs found*
it has nothing to do with the title length because these songs worked with my other phone.
any help is appreciated. thanks

Now all of the new LG VX8100 and the Samsung SCH-A950 are part of the verizon VCAST music. Which means the phone doesnt read mp3. I think you have to covert the mp3s to wma. Download one of these software and convert the mp3 to wma and see if it works. http://www.litexmedia.com/?from_WMAWorkshop

Got mine at the end of December and it plays mp3s fine. Check your phone's software -- only the newer one, ending in 104, recognizes the mp3 player. It's conceivable (but shabby) that they replaced your phone with an OLDER phone with the old software.

Press MENU
Click right 2 clicks to Tools
Select 4, Device Info
Select 2, SW Version
second line gives version number.
last three characters should be V04, not 104 as I said in my post above.
I believe the earlier, non-MP3 version ends in V01 instead.
If you have 01, take it back and they can do a free software upgrade.
BTW I learned all this right here in messages from December thru early Jan -- consider it an archive resource!
And good luck.

No, it sounds like it's a version later than mine. You'd think that would mean it would work even better, wouldn't you?
'Fraid I have to pass you on to the more techie backbone leaders of this forum on this one.
Good luck!

With sw version VO6, you need to reactivate the mp3 player. I had to do it with mine. I found the information on the web and verified it with the verizon rep that it was ok. Thanks go to the original poster of the fix. V07 is now out; dont know if this works on that. (heard V07 has a lot of bugs). Anyway, heres how to do it.
1) Ensure that your phone has firmware version V06 on the device. Earlier versions do not need this guide and this guide has not been tested with firmwares that have not yet been released.
2) Enter the menu and press 0. You will then be prompted for a service code, which on Verizon phones should be 000000.
3) Scroll down to the last menu option which should be "Music Setting", at which point, you can select the MP3 function which will restore MP3 support. Chose this then exit out of the menu.
4) At this point MP3 playback will be available under Tunes and Tones (again).
5) To switch the dedicated music playback buttons to the MP3 player from the VCast music player, go to Tools, then Shortcut Key, and chose the MP3 Player instead of VCast Music.
