Sometimes 7.D0 appears black when in bootloader. Does RSD Lite recognise the phone and does it operate normally - if so there is nothing to worry about

Hi Guys,
I am totally at witts end, and about to throw the phone out of the window !
I have a V3 locked to Orange UK, and i have a 3 uk sim that i want to use in my phone.
I have been told that there are problems that this wont work, is this true ?
i have (stupidly) purchased an online unlock, which seems to have unlocked the phone so that i can put a Voda or T-Mob sim in there, but it still shows SIM ERROR when putting my 3 sim in.
Please HELP !

The V3 isn't a 3G phone so doesn't work on 3's 3G network I'm afraid

Hi, I've tried following the unlock instructions in the very first post. My phone has bootloader 7.e0 (or 0e, can't remember which way round that goes.)
Either way, I got as far as step 4, and after downloading the file ending shx, I couldn't extract it because my pc doesn't recognise a file ending .shx, and I can't seem to find ANY program that will. I have RSD Lite, but have no idea how i'm supposed to extract the shx file and 'flash' it to the phone. Sorry if this makes me look completely dumb, but it's just baffling me now. Can anyone help?
