I am in a bit of a pickle and any help I could get would be appreciated. I am on Cingular and my GSM Nokia phone just took a crap on me, and one of my friends who is no longer with Cingular gave me her old phone. I was thinking that I would just be able to pop in my SIM card and everything would work fine. However, whenever I try to use the phone its just says Emergency use only.
Do I have to unlock the phone somehow to get it to work? I was under the impression that since they are both GSM phones that were used with Cingular, it would just work with switched Sim cards.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
P.S. The nokia phone is a model 3120

is it possible that the phone is either a former ATT phone or you are former ATT?
if so the phone needs to be unlocked...

We are both former ATT, but had switched to the Cingular network. Bothof our SIM cards are Cingular. If I need to unlock it, how would I go about doing that?
Thanks for the help

Its the L1400 that I am trying to unlock... I searched around an found some unlock codes, but whenever I turn the phone on it asks for the PUK code, I have tried 0000 and the last 4 digits of the phone number an neither will work. Does anyone have any ideas?

call customer care and get your PUK code... if you enter a wrong PUK too many times it will fry the sim

if she is no longer on the cingular network the PUK code is of no consequence........the carrier she has now will have the correct PUK... the code is for the sim not the device

If its asking for the PUK code with your sim in the phone, then you need to call customer service and ask for the PUK. Your sim is the one that's locked. call cs from a landline and they'll walk you through it.
