I have a love/hate thing going with Cingular. In my area (Southern Indiana), they have the best coverage but they SUCK on customer service. Last year when my V600 crapped out (earpiece) I "upgraded" to a V551 as a former AT&T customer. The local Cingular stores weren't very helpful or knowledgeable and abslutely never give any insight on what may be just around the corner...
Like 2 months after I "upgraded" the Razr started hitting those $99-149 deals. This may be normal, but it seems to be rather shady to me. That brings me to my other problem, Motorola. I have been the owner/user of the the 2 biggest GSM "V" series phones (besides the Razr), the V600 and the V551. There feature set is top-notch, but both phones have had earpieces that dropped in quality and volume over time.
So here I am considering the V3i (Razr 2) as a replacement to my V551. I know people are raving about the esthetics, but I would love to hear some shout-outs about the call quality/reception/dropping.
If the Razr doesn't do it, I am ready to jump ship from Motorola and go elsewhere, but the phone has to have Bluetooth and be either a calm-shell or slider configuration (no exposed keys).
Thanks for all the help.

I did. Not bad. I have NO experience with LG phones. Are they fairly durable?

We suck in Customer service?! Ouch! Hmm, lets see. Again I will say stay away from Motorola for a phone. Beautiful phone, however they manufacture junk. I work for Convergy's a company Cingular outsources too, so many problems are with Motorola phones. I strongly suggest looking at an LG phone or a Nokia. I haven't had any problems with the reception/dropping. The main problem we are having is the phone will break. Or the ear peice will stop working. Try looking at other phones first to see if anything catches your eye before you make any choices, is my best suggestion!

Actually, your national customer service has been fine with me - its the local yahoos that are kind of...complacent, for lack of a better term. That is to say, I did not mean to lump ALL of Cingular in the bad service category, sorry!
I will keep looking. I have gotten quite used to the Motorola software in the recent few years - some things I find very nice (never thought that multiple alarms would be a killer feature, but I use them every day) and some seem wasted on me (I rarely take pics these days, but have found them useful at times - and Motos interface could be alot quicker in this regard).
Thanks for your advice!

you prefer LG's and you work for convergys!? how many times have you dealt with the SOS problem, they've updated the issue in CCnet and it pretty much includes any SW version.
Granted, this affects only a small minority of LG phones, but it's turned me off of them, eventhough i do kinda like some of their phones.

NO don't get any Motorola Razr phone. save yourself the headache. I bought a brand new Razr V3 7 months ago,I've had 2 replaced already through Motorola's manufacturer warranty. The first one for dust particles under the screen (which was annoying to read through) then for not reading my SIM card (guess internally it gave out). I've since been asking other Razr uses how they're experiences are, bout 50% are the same unhappy Motorola user as I am the others enjoy it. If you tend to drop your phone every now& then (like sometimes happens) its fragile so invest in another brand, the quality is lacking. I sold the Razr V3(after they sent another replacement) needless to say. I'm waiting on my LG phone I bought. Good Luck!

CCnet? Oh, the memories! But... LG sucked when it first jumped into the GSM market; its original devices were worse than the V220 and the V180. They've made great headway since then, but their phones aren't quite the same quality they are for their CDMA models.
However, this is all opinion: All wireless phones suck. They all have problems. They all crap out or don't do what they're supposed to; and why shouldn't they? They're micronized computers set in plastic housing, mass-manufactured with little deviance of design or form, and where there is deviance the risk is weighed out by price; these phones saturate the market and every third person's holding a phone.
Any phone you get is going to have a problem on a long enough timeline. You may not care about the problems, you may be complacent in them. So what? I say, if you want the RAZR 3i, get it. You should ask questions, however, and not at the store. It's like asking a used car salesman to be honest about his merchandise.
