Your service provider gave you the wrong information.
I guess he only heared "Motorola" and than automatically started to talk about Mobile Phone Tools...
In the manual of the MPx200 is exlained how to use the phone as modem!
| Quote: |
Modem Link
Using Modem Link, you can use your phone as an external modem
for another device or computer. Modem Link allows you to use a
serial port, infrared, or USB for this connection.
To set up an infrared or USB modem connection
1. Make sure that your phone is not connected to another
2. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select
select Accessories , and then press the Action button.
3. Select Modem Link and press the Action button.
4. Under Connection , select USB or IrCOMM , press the Menu
soft key, select Activate , and then press the Action button.
5. Connect your phone to the device with which you want to
your phone as a modem.
To set up a serial port modem connection
1. Make sure that your phone is not connected to another
2. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select
select Accessories , and then press the Action button.
3. Select Modem Link and then press the Action button.
4. Under Connection , select Serial (COM1) , press the Menu
key, select Activate and then press the Action button.
Note: The default baud rate is set for 115,200. Do not change
default unless the port speed of the phone or computer requires
you to do so.
To activate the Modem Link
1. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select
select Accessories , and then press the Action button.
2. Select Modem Link and then press the Action button.
3. Press the Menu soft key, select Activate , and then press
Action button.
4. Align the phone's infrared (IR) port or connect the cable
device.
To deactivate the Modem Link
1. On the Home screen, press the Programs soft key, select
select Accessories , and then press the Action button.
2. Select Modem Link and then press the Action button.
3. Press the Menu soft key, select Deactivate , and then press the
Action button.
Note: Failing to deactivate the Modem Link when you are finished
using it may result in problems with using ActiveSync in the same
session.
|
Tip: don't (!!!) close the modem application or press "Done" !! This will close the modem link.
Check the hardware manager if the modem has been recognized correctly. This shouldn't be a problem with Windows XP and ActiveSync installed.

That settings have nothing to do with the modem, they only are necessary for the phone itself to connect to the WAP (what the phone also can't do because it has the Internet Explorer build-in which can only use internet settings).
And you can't use the WAP service with your computer, you can only establish a dial-up connection to connect your computer to the web.

sorry Bjoern, but I do use the WAP service with my Desktop Pc. The only problem is that I must use it with WinWap ( the programe translates "www." into "wap." through the gateway IP, i think), and I can't download anything with this Winwap. only email, forums, i can't even save a picture.

Well, ok, with additional softare it is possible.
But when I was talking about WAP service I don't meant the actual use of WAP.
Service provider normally differ between WAP and internet use with the phone itself. And as it is the MPx200 can only use the internet service (or say: it can only use the settings for internet connections and not for WAP).
Meanwhile I've got no idea what you really wanna do...

Officially the Internet Explorer can display WAP, but you can't use the WAP settings for it and have to use the internet setting (which is quite annoying... and in some countries quite expensive).
What you mentioned earlier, the APN and IP stuff have to be put in in
Start -> Settings -> Data Connections -> press "Menu" -> select "Edit Connections"
I've never got the phone to connect via WAP, but I don't have the impulse to do it really...
