would I still have to purchase tzone for 2.99/month to get the csd to work???
I don't have it so i just get to that page where tmobile tells me to purchase the service

I don't think so. But seeing as I have t-zones I am not positive.
Go into the settings as described above and change your homepage in the CSD settings to something like yahoo's WAP page <http://wap.yahoo.com>. The CSD connection should then get you on the web.
