Purchased a V600 through auction site. Looks to have UK software. Problem is the backlight won't come on. The screen works but need external lighting to see it. Is this a hardware or software or setting problem? And can it easily be fixed?

Hardware problem to me. I got a wet V600 that after revover thee is no back light on the LCD

You should maybe check the water damage indicator on the back of the phone... red means water damaged.. white means that its not... little round circle on back of phone.

The white dot under the battery is solid white..
