They don't have to be qcp files. You can use standard midi files or mp3s. If you're using mp3s, they still must be under 30 kb to email them to your phone, and you must change the file extension (within Windows) to .mid. If you can't see file extensions on your computer, you need to change your file viewing options so that you can.

So MyFile.qcp would become MyFile.qcp.mid
You can then email/sms it to your phone and you will be able to save and play it. Works fine, have put a number of voice ringers on my phone this way.
Good luck!

hello. took me a little bit, but one thing i figured out after many failures is that if you are creating a short mp3 file (which will be later renamed to .mid), you need to save the file at 16000 Hz. all other settings (lower than 16000) failed to play once I received them on my phone. at 16000 it sounds great.
i now have a nice little wav to mp3 renamed to mid uploaded to my phone as my ringer. the one thing i'd like to know now is how to have it repeat when the phone rings. it just plays one time and that is it.

Hey,
Here's the issue at hand...
I've created a short mp3 (@16000Hz), changed extension to .mid, sent file to my phone (LG VX6000) via a data transfer cable, and it wont play.
I also sent a wallpaper I created to check if the cable was to blame; however, the wallpaper was sent fine.
Here are some questions that I have:
- Is there anymore specs for the .mp3 (.mid) file, other then it must be 16000Hz, that I should be aware of? If so, what might those be?
- If you have effectively transfered sound (.mid) files that have played, what specific steps did you take to create said playable files?
Info:
Phone - LG VX6000
Cable - VerizonWireless Mobile Office Kit Cable that supports LG VX6000
Data Transfer Software - BitPim Verson 0.7.18 (Offical)
Operating System - Windows XP Professional
Well thank you all for your time, and hoping to hear your thoughts...
Thanks again.
- Damien

first off, you need to get the usb data cable which can be found anywhere. it should cost about $20 the the lg vx6000 and is compatible with other lg phones.
after you get yourself the cable, install the software that comes on the cd and youre almost there. next, you need to download the free program, bitpim. always get the most recent version. after you dl and install it, open up the program and click on ringers. youll want to get rid of any that are in there, especially delete the ones on your phone in the my media, music just so you can save some space. when you are in ringers, right click, then click "add." search for whatever mp3 you want and click open. a box will come up and tell you to convert. you can leave the sampling rate at what it is. anything will work. just click convert. a box will come up and youll see it converting. when it is done, you have an option of listening to it. dont worry, it sounds great. last but not least, click on the toolbar where it says data, then click on send phone data and after a few mins(depends on length of song) itll be under your my media and you can set it as ringtone and what not. i currently have 2 songs on my phone. no more right now cause they are all i want for the time being. not sure how many you can fit, but the 2 songs i have equal 1.7mbs. im sure there isnt much space left. any questions, feel free to email me, masterg2@comcast.net good luck!

Is there a way I can download the software for free? If so, can you direct me where?
Thanks.
