Hi,
Does anyone know if there is an option to change the tone when receiving a text message once the ringtone for the ID of a certain person is changed. I find it very annoying when I give someone a personal ringtone that it will use the same ringtone when this person sends me a text message. I want to buy the Motorola V3i but won't if this is not possible. Hope to receive a positive reply... Thanxxx Nath

yup you can...here's how
From the stand by screen press the "Menu" key.
Scroll to Settings and select by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll to Ring Styles and select by pressing the right soft key.
The phone will display the current ringing profile or style.
Highlight the detail option and select Change by pressing the right soft key.
Highlight "Text Msgs" and select Change by pressing the right soft key.
Scroll through all options and select the desired ring tone or vibration setting.
ress the end call button to exit.

I am not sure if this is what I meant (I can't try it b/c I don't have a Motorola on hand) just in case let me try to explain what I mean so you can confirm (if you don't mind). Let's say I give you a personal ringtone let's say 'sugar we're going down' so each time you call me that song plays. (But only when you call) Now you send me a text message and instead of the standard tone when receiving a text I hear 'sugar we're going down'. (so I am expecting a call from you but actually am receiving a text). The way I read your explanation it is just to change the tone for receiving a standard text when the ringtone is not personalised. Sorry if I am being really blonde here, just wanted to double check... Thanks for your patience!!!

even if you have personalised ring tone, you can change the text tone to be different. there two different options.

If you set ringer ID for a particular caller in your address book that ringer is also used for text messages and there is no way around it.

How do you figure? I text all the time to my friend and I have a set ringer for their phone number. But I text him all the time but the text tone for him is "Notify" because I set the tone for the text messages to ring as "notify". So I dont know what your doing wrong or if you have a different version of the Razr but my does this option

This has been covered to death on other forums and there is no known solution.
When he texts you does it actually show up as his number or his name? - sometimes there is a problem with dialling codes screwing up the contact relation with text messages which could explain it working for you I suppose

Yeah if it shows his number and not contact name then thats why - in fact your input has given me an idea for a possible workround to the ringer ID / texting so thanks for your input.
My post in other forum:
The problem is that when a message is received from a known contact with a ringer ID set it uses the ringer ID tone not the system setting.
Now there is also a bug / seem edit which causes received messages to not be identified due to the country / dialling code prefix.
So if you can live with the second problem then maybe you can overcome the first. You should still be able to successfully send messages to the saved contact number just when you receive tham the number and not the name will be shown.
The seem edit is 0032_0001
offset 3E -bit 4: for purposes of linking name in phonebook with caller ID number, xxx-xxxx = xxx-xxx-xxxx = 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx = +1-xxx-xxx-xxxx (0 on, 1 off)
Anyway just a thought
