I had been thinking about getting a z520, but they disappeared from the Cingular website before I got around to it. I looked around to see what was up, and found that apparently a lot of z520s would start to malfunction after a few weeks and that Cingular had apparently therefore stopped selling them.
Now the z520 is back on the Cingular website, but I'd rather not buy one if they still have the problems I heard about (flashing but not ringing when recieving calls even if the ringer was on, mic not working, crashing). Does anyone know if Sony Ericsson fixed the problems, or is Cingular just selling the bad phones?

Was the sensitive camera button issue fixed with the re release of the z520? I love the phone, but get sick of the camera coming on when whenever that area is lightly touched! thanks

I can't speak for all the z520a's but my camera doesn't come on at the slightest touch of the button. I have to hold it down, whether its open or closed.

I bought 3 of the phones at Christmas and all three are acting erratically. Would should I do? Is a firmwareupdate something to pursue or return the phones?

Well considering they had so many problems that Cingular pulled them off shelves, I imagine that if you took them to Cingular they would repair or replace them for you. I actually have no idea whether it's a firmware issue or a hardware issue.
