The 30-day period for customers migrating or porting-in begins on the day the port is complete.
Is the upgrade process from ATT to Cing referred to as porting?
When is Porting complete? When they send the phone or when the phone is activated after it is received?
I am not receiving my phone as early as I expected and do not think the delay should count against the 30 day return policy.

As far as it's concerned, the process of the upgrade from former AT&T Wireless to Cingular Wireless is considered to be a prefered port; your new phone will ready within five minutes from the time you activate the phone, so you do not lose any service.
Moving it back if you aren't satisfied is a porting process, however.
And your 30 day return policy begins when you start service on that new device.

Thank you. I realized also I have actually been a Cingular customer sine the merger I have just not agreed to a Cingular plan. I have been sending checks to Cingular since though. But the 30 day termination and return policy still applies right?
Even existing customers can terminate within 30 days of a new contract correct? Without being subject to early termination fees?

Firstly, you may here some dumb representatives use terms like "blue" and "orange" to describe what company you were under prior to the merger. However, even after the merger and even though your bills were under Cingular Wireless, you're still under the same billing system you started service with, same billing account number and so forth. Your service was grandfathered on, more or less.
And when you upgrade your device, you are physically migrated from one billing system to another. And since it's a transition from a grandfathered system to a new one, we call it a migration. And offer a 30 day buyer's remorse period.
You're able cancel to, however, within the 30 days and will not be subject to an eartly termination fee on your new Cingular Wireless account. The old account number, the old account that you had before the merger, will be subject to a $175.00 ETF if, and only if, you still under agreement with your old contract. (You won't be subject to an ETF if you keep service with Cingular Wireless, though that should be obvious).

My ATT "blue" agreement is long past over. At least a year. You know. I am almost tempted to cancel before I even receive my phone and just say forget it Cingular. I called Monday to check my online status, was refered to the egroup. Had to wait till Tuesday to call them after I retreived my order number from my email at home that night. Then when I contacted them Tuesday they said the order was pending credit check. Which they processed after I called them. When I called today to see if they needed anything else from me they said the order was still being processed. I asked if the credit check would have been processed if I had not called. They said no. They would have just cancelled the order. So Tuesday they said it would take 24 hours to process. Then today 30 hours later they said it will process within 24 hours. I told them I was told that yesterday. I received "We apologize for thje inconvenience" your order will ship as soon as the order is processed. I navigated the online site and fianlly found the method for email so I could have documented written responses. The first resonse said we would like to inform you now that it should take 24 hours to process the order then 3 to 5 business days to receive your order once it ships. I replied to that email and they responded lengthening there tiem to process as 24 to 48 hours then 3 to 5 days.
I don't get it.
The confirmation email I received after placing my order stated you should receive your items within 1 to 2 business days depending on the shipping method you chose. What it failed to say is if you starting a new agreement we will wait for you to call us to prompt us to process your credit check. Then that it takes several days to process the order. Then we actually take 3 to 5 days to get the item to you. 2 WEEKS, not 1 to 2 business days.
I apologize. This is not a reflection of the performance of the network just the expectations set then the actuality not long after. And all they give you is we apologize for the inconvenience. I hope they accept that when I decide I can take my to pay a bill...... if I don't cancel the whole thing.

I cancelled the online order this afternoon. Didn't even start into my 30 day period. I started a new plan with Alltel later in the day and dropping CING.

Well good luck with that CDMA service. I'm sure it will work out just fine.

Smart choice; sorry I didn't state anything earlier about this. I think the entire situation, this upgrade process, is baroque. Former AT&T Wireless customers shouldn't been treated any differently than new customers, and all upgrades and services should go through the same channels. That is the point of a common service experience, right?

Yes. The sales person I spoke to at the Cing store told me she could not do the transition at the store. She said I needed to do it online or over the phone. I mentioned the instant larger discount online versus the mail in at the store and she said if you purchase online you have to deal with online for returns. I asked myself, Was I just turned away from the store and then discouraged to deal with the online method also?
I paid $150 for my new phone at Alltel. It was not really an issue of price.... I just mentioned the mail in was less than the instant discount. I have have a $50 mail in from the Alltel phone but I am not even worried about that.
The whole thing was quite discouraging.
I wish I lived in the markets that the reps posting here live in. I would not have jumped ship.

I never like to suggest for someone to go to another carrier, but if it's best for the person...
the store can't give credit...credit to a store rep is like a cross to a vampire. there is a web-pricing dept in cingular, but i guess you can keep that in mind for next time.
I guess you should cjange your service provider tag now
