Hmmm... that was lots of language... here's a "by the numbers" procedure (assuming you have some computer expertise):
1. Format the miniSD by placing in in your phone, the phone with automatically format the card and place needed directories there. Do not format the card on your computer.
2. Plug the card reader into a USB slot on your computer. You should hear a tone indicating your card reader has been recognized. No "installation" is necessary for a USB device like this.
3. Click on "My Computer" and find the card reader. It will show as a drive letter, probably D: or E: - actually the next available drive letter.
4. Open the card reader by clicking on its drive letter. You should see these directories: MY_FLIX MY_MP3 MY_PIX and MY_SOUNDS
5. Open another window and locate your MP3 files. Drag & Drop them into the miniSD MY_MP3 file.
6. Once they're there, you can replace the miniSD card in your phone and find them this way: OK(Menu) - left, left - 1. Get Tunes & Tones - 4. My MP3 and see them listed. You can play them from this location if you wish.
7. You can also access them with the buttons on the front of your phone. Press and hold the center button (>||) until you see your MP3's listed, the forward/backward buttons (>| and <|) will scroll you through your collection. When you find the tune you want, pressing the center button will play it, you can adjust the volume with the side volume bar. When a selection is playing, you can "fast forward" with the >| button.
I don't mean to be over-detailed, but hopefully the info you need is somewhere in here.
Have fun.

it seems as though the card reader is the fastest route. I already have a 512 MB SD memory card for my phone. I do, however, need to check ebay for a card reader now.
Finally, Thank you both for all of your help. I should be able to get it from here. Your help has been so appreciated. God Bless you all. Take care.

have been playing with 8100 for a couple of days now - have had no problems w/mp3 player but mine only wants .wma files not .mp3 (the audiovox 8940 I got for my mom wants .mp3 so I figured that out) - I'm talking about on the miniSD (not even thinking about cable connections yet).
BUT QUERY about flashing light on incoming call - red/blue flashes at bottom right of camera lens - is that right? (8940 flashes all the way around the outside button on the closed phone, so this seems odd.) This is same location that lights when I turn on the flash for the camera - appears to be one bulb location but I can sorta see another to the bottom left. Is this a problem that needs the phone returned?

What is the largest sized SD card you can put into the 8100? I have seen the 512 listed but can you put a 1 gig in there?

I have seen a post somewhere that the 2 Gig doesn't work yet. And that San Disk seems to work more reliably than others.
