Hi overunder..
The miniSD card cannot modify anything in the phone memory, like deleting the "standard" ringtones. I use BitPim through both a cable and/or BlueTooth but have not yet discovered a way to delete the "standard" ringtones.
For my 2¢, the miniSD card is the greatest addition to the phone as a storage device for MP3's, ringtones, pictures, etc. It's easy to access through a card reader and my PC to add ringtones, pictures, MP3's etc which can then be "moved" via the phone into phone memory if that's where you'd want them.
In spite of Verizon's greedy disabling some VX8100 capabilities, I do enjoy the phone and have circumvented some of the artifically imposed limitations.

Got a bluetooth usb pc adapter and bitpim and i have been exploring the filesystem trying to load mp3s or wma's into the phone and have had some success. when using bitpim you can add songs into a My Music folder in the filesystem menu, just drag and drop and if you're using bluetooth wait about 5-30 minutes for a song to transfer. Learned this from another site but goto menu and hit "0" 7 times to open up the service menu and from there you can enable or disable the mp3 player. I've had some trouble in the matter of playing the audio. So far eventhough i can see the songs on my phone under "my music" they won't play. "player error" it tells me. to get mp3's onto the phone officially you have to connect and sync with WMP10 so does that mean i would need to use wma 10 encoded audio? Also as a test i was wondering if someone could try to take a game off of their phone with bitpim and for me to try to put it on mine. I've transferred Ringtones, Sounds, Videos and seen that the wma/mp3s are there but just cant play them so games is the next target.

I recently bought my VX8100 phone and was very frustrated with trying to figure out how to use the MP3 feature of the phone (one of the main reasons I chose this phone). After searching this site and finding the discussion and easy to follow instructions by chassuitt, I was able to successfully rip songs from a cd, and copy them to my miniSD card! I'm listening to Yellow Submarine on my phone as I type this!
THANKS for making this novice techie a happy camper, and allowing me to show off to my husband!!

I can and have placed mp3s on my 1 gig card and also a ripped dvd (mpeg4) of a DVD I have into the "My_Flix" folder. My question is 2 part:
1) While I can go to the "get tunes and tones" and scroll down to my mp3s and I see all my mp3s, and play them from there, when I try to use the front buttons it beeps at me and says "NO SONGS FOUND". Why is that?
2) I can't find ANYWHERE to get the movie to load, how do I go about that?
All help would be appreciated.

chassuitt: Those were crystal clear MP3 instructions... and I do sometimes use my daughters laptop....
Will these instructions more or less work that way when using a Mac with OS X 10.4 ??
Thanks in advance... SilverDave

I bought a 512MB Sandisk and anytime I try to transfer MP3's I get a write protection error. I have moved the slide forward and back and get the same error regardless. Is there something I have missed. Oh, I already formatted the card on the phone.

On your Verizon VX8100 that will be or has been upgraded to the V7 software have no fear... for I am hear...lol how cheesy.. but to get to the point...
<<<WARNING>>>
This menu your about to view can seriously screw your phone up!
From the main screen hit menu, then 0, then the passcode is all zero's.. then scroll up till you get to music settings and turn them MP3's back on and thats it... You can donate to the Boys and Girls Club in your area if this was helpful... I am not sure if this is a repeat but worth reposting...

Tried everything and still get the "disk is write protected" error. I'm using the card reader that is on my new Canon Pixma iP6600D Photo printer.
Now, I am having success using bitpim. However, it is god-awful slow. Which setting in the phone determines serial speed. I thought I found it and changed it to 115000 but either way, USB2 vs. BAUD.
I don't understand why I'm having so much trouble with this. I've moved the slide on the adapter and have had no luck.
Lastly, although I have music in the MY_MP3 folder, it still says NO SONGS FOUND when I hold down the play button on the outside of the phone. TIA for the help.
