icon_smile.gif You can also use the front buttons with the VX8100 closed to bring up the tunes list - center button held for ±3 seconds brings up the list of tunes - left or right buttons scroll through the list.

Hope this helps.

I have the 07 software, re-enabled the MP3 player from the service menu, and still get "NO SONGS FOUND" although I have songs in the MP3 folder of the card that I added via filesystem in BitPim. Is there something else I am missing? Thanks for any help you can offer.

DOH!!!

ONE problem solved. In order to use the card reader in my printer, I simply had to enable read/write mode from the printers internal settings.

However, still confused as to why I am unable to use the play button on the front of the phone.

It's trying to open the vcast music player..

Try this: Menu, Right, Right, 1. Tools, 3. Shortcut Key, 2. Play Key and choose My MP3's.

Now it should lauch the MP3 player instead when using the play key in front.

If you do get the new Firmware, are you still able to play MP3's? The new firmware allows you to download music to your Mp3 player directly on the phone, also, to be able to use the Cable that you get with the Music Essentials kit you need to have 07. 07 allows you to Sync your MP3's With Windows Media Player, this is correct right?

If you have the MP3s on your phone, and can play them through the menus, but not from the buttons on the front, this is what you need to do:

Menu -> Right x2 (Settings & Tools) -> OK (Tools) -> Down x2 -> OK (Shortcut Key) -> Down -> OK (Play Key) -> Select My MP3s

This should work.

Hey,

Just stopping by. I am liking what I see from these forums. Figured ut my MP3 problem, LOL. Kind of retarded you have to ENABLE MP3 mode, but oh well.

Anyways, here is my take on the whole thing...

I elected not to purchase the MUSIC bundle from Verizon. I figured if it uses a miniSD card, there is no reason I can't bypass all that.

So, I had a WalMart gift card I hadn't used, and finally used it. Went out and got myself a SanDisk 12-in-1 Card Reader/Writer station. It is pretty sweet. You can detach it from its stand and has a shorter travel cable, to take it on the road. Don't believe I will ever use it that way, LOL, but nice to know. And it was only like $29. Works wondefully. My thought was why get that Verizon USB kit thing when I can get something that does that and more? They sell this SanDisk reader/writer at BestBuy, Sears, WalMart, many places. I just had to make sure it was a reader/writer, which it is and says. I guess some are just readers, which is kind of ridiculous if you ask me. There are even cheaper SanDisk ones for around $19.

Then I stopped by BestBuy. I had a gift card there too that I hadn't used. Hard to figure out what to buy at BestBuy, LOL. So many things. And they were having a nice sale on miniSD cards. Picked up a 1GB SanDisk miniSD card for $65. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, could have gone to eBay and got one for about half that, but I am weary about buying somethings on eBay, plus I wanted it NOW. Just make sure if you go now, that you go to the Customer Service center and have them change the price, cause at most of the stores, the price is still set at $80. But on the website it is $65. So they will fix that for you.

Anyways, got home, installed the card reader, then put the card in the phone, feeling it would prob need to format the card. Which it did, and I went to put music on it in MP3 format, nothing. Read in the book it only reads WMAs. That ticked me off. Luckily I had come across this specific topic in this forum, and read that you need to enable the MP3 funtion. Did that, removed and reinserted the card. Went to MY MP3s, it said nothing was there, which it should, cause I had the MP3's in MY MUSIC. Put the MP3's in the proper folder, works great.

I gotta say, this is one of the best phones out there for the money. Yeah, there may be better phones, but not in its price range. I previously had an Motorolla V120 phone for 3 years. Decided to sign a new contract with Verizon, and got the upgrade option. I used to make fun of some of my friends with there flip phones and phone cameras, but this is GREAT! Takes awesome pics and has a lot of great funtions and then the mp3 function is awesome and miniSD. I am just having all sorts of fun icon_wink.gif

Anyways, thanks again for the awesome forum and advice!

This menu your about to view can seriously screw your phone up!

From the main screen hit menu, then 0, then the passcode is all zero's.. then scroll up till you get to music settings and turn them MP3's back on and thats it... You can donate to the Boys and Girls Club in your area if this was helpful... I am not sure if this is a repeat but worth reposting...

OMG, this is great ... finally found the short simple answer to my question and am happily listening to MP3's on my 8100!
