it looks like

MIDlet-Version: 1.xx

(or whatever the number is) is cut off. I believe the version number is one of the required lines for a .jad.

If you can't find a real version number, just make one up.

Alternately, you may want to download the .jad file again if there's more stuff cut off the bottom. You did, however, edit it correctly (assuming the .jad and .jar are in the same folder).

I have Modified yowchuan's instructions slightly so that they work with a V551.
Hope this helps someone!

Load games into V551.
What you need.
Basics.
USB Cord to connect phone to computer
Program to enable Java app loader (SmartMoto)(my ver is 1.07)(File name: SmartMoto 1[1].07 European.msi)
Program to upload games (MIDway)From motorola (File name: Motorola_MIDway_v2.8.zip)
Program to convert JAR games to JAD (optional). (JadMaker) (File name: JADMaker.zip)

Install java App loader
1. Download smartMoto, and install
2. Start program "smartMoto"
plug V551 into USB plug
Click "Search" in smartmoto
you will see the "information" on the left hand side.
under the "Read Phone info" you will see all information about your phone. if you do not see this recheck all
connections and go back to step 2.
3. Click on "Service" on the left
4. Click on "Activate phone "Java App Loader" option. See log at bottom of screen for details.
5. Assuming all went well you now have Java app loader in your phone.
6. Reset phone - unplug your phone, turn it off then on again.

7. Go to "menu" - "Settings" (select), Scrol down to "Java Settings" (select) The top item should be "Java App Loader"

Open MIDWAY
The text below was taken from yowchuan, This part worked for the V551 as well, all my comments have * by them.
Subject: HOW-TO: Upload Games / Midlets via Midway to Motorola T720 (*V551)

Step 08
Select Java App Loader and this message will appear: "Insert Cable Now".

Step 09
Now, plug T720 (*V551) back to your PC. Notice the message: "JAL Link is active..."

Step 10
Start MIDway now. If you have started Midway before this step, you just screwed up! Hahaha...unplug your phone and start from
Step *7

Step 11
In MIDway, go to File>Settings>. In AT Command, type the following: AT

Step 12
In MIDway, to figure out which port to use, go to your Device Manager in your computer, look for the Motorola USB
Modem>Properties> Advanced> Advanced Port Settings> and check out the COM Port Number. It should be ranging from 1-4, if not,
move current devices which uses either these 4 ports to another COM Port. You must use either one of these COM ports because
MIDway only works with COM 1 to COM 4. If you have problem with reallocating COM ports, try a solution search on Google.
Whatever it is, it must be synchronize with MIDway's port setting later on.

Step 14
In Device Manager> Motorola USB Modem> Properties> Advanced> you should see the text box "Extra Settings". Type in the
following: AT

Step 15
In MIDway, Using the COM port setting you got from Step 12, check the com port to use. Eg, if from Step 12, you found out you
are using COM Port 3, then you should check the radio button for COM Port 3 in MIDway. The only error message you might get
is "Can't Open Serial Port. Would you like to change MIDway settings?". You will only get this if the COM port you have
selected is in use by other mysterious applications.

** I had download all my filles in .JAR format. It was here that I opened up JadMaker and converted the Jar's to Jad's

Step 16
In MIDway, once everything is setup, go to File> Open JAD. Select the JAD file to load.
Make sure you check your JAD file's "MIDlet-Jar-URL" attributes is targeted to the JAR file on your computer, not
some HTTP reference. You can open up a JAD file in Notepad to edit it.

*** In MIDway click File > Send Jad
Go to V551 and select download you will see the data moving in to your phone.

If all went well skip to step 19 icon_smile.gif

Step 17.
In MIDway, do not use the Send AT Command, which I have seen quite a few instructions said you must send an AT command to get
a "AT OK" message. I am not sure why, but whenever I did that, the JAD file cannot be loaded. So leave the "Send AT Command"
alone for now. You will get a few error messages in this part:-
i) Connecting to the phone.... [Fail]
Your COM port settings could be wrong

ii) Connecting to the phone.... [TIMER EXPIRED]
Your COM port setting is correct, but you probably messed with the Send AT Command.

In both cases, download is cancelled, and you should start over again from Step 01...whoops.

Step 18
If you don't get any error commands, you should get a Download Alert on T720.

Step 19
Clap your hands and compliment yourself for this long-awaited victory.

I've noticed a few posts in this thread describing the same issue I'm having after following all the instructions:

The games download to the phone successfully, but when I try to run them I get a white screen for a few seconds, then the application quits and I get an "Application Error".

I have an unlocked v551.

I have a V3C from Bell Mobility, just got it yesterday. I've followed the instructions to use PST to enable the Java App Loader, but when I go into my phones Settings menu, there is no "Java Settings" menu. There is an "Apps Settings" menu, but the "Java App Loader" option doesn't show up in there either.

Help?

Hi I have all the required programs to send JAD files to my Motorola RAZR, unfortunately my USB ports are designated COM 6, 7, and 8.
I tried googling COM port reallocation as you suggested but came up empty handed. If you could point me to a resource or tell me how to reassign the COM port I would appreciate it.
