***NEED HELP***
****NEED HELP***
i have dropped my Motorola E-815 in a lake while ice fishing, battery attached. i have a friend who is a diver, going down to get it tomorrow. it will have been submerged for more than 24 hrs by the time i get it back. i have read the "repairing a water damaged phone" file posted by Chunkhead. Am i being realistic in thinking there is a chance i will be able to get any data (phonebook) off this phone?
i am a banker and all of my business numbers are on it.
thank you for any input!!

i'd say no...not when it's been that long...but there's two way to check. take the battery off and completely let it dry...if that doesn't work, put the sim in another phone to see if you can pull them from the sim.

You might be able to get the info off the phone if it was turned off when it went into the water and the lake is not that dirty. If it was off when it went down here's what I would do. Take it all apart (the warranty is void now anyway). Wash it all down except the battery with clean water. Then dry it with a towel and a hair dryer to help prevent calcium buildup on the board. Put it back together. If you have a tester you can use on the battery to see if it works try that. You could have just grounded out the battery. Maybe take it to a store (your provider) and ask them to test the phone with a new battery. That happend to mine, in the toilet though and only for a few seconds. I cleaned and dried it and it worked just fine. Except the reception is a little CRAPPY not...HAHA

The only reason I joined this forum is to tell all of you that I did it!!!
I too dropped my phone (Samsung A840)...and yes I actually dropped it in the toilet..mid flush I didn't think to take the battery off and I also did not turn off the phone. I left it to dry near a space heater, but a couple of hours later it was dead. I could get power but that was it and I couldn't turn it off except to take off the battery, nothing worked.
I had just bought the phone 25 days earlier and although under the 30 days required for a new phone was not granted on because of water damage. I got it back after 3 weeks.
I too read Chuckheads and others methods for cleaning phones with isopropyl alcohol (also the same stuff used as VCR head cleaner)
Well since I had nothing to lose I opened it up, took off the screws holding the metal plate protecting the circuitry and got my first look at the insides of a cell phone. I spread droplets of isopropyl and used a toothbrush to clean off the deposits on the circuitry gave it a quick blast with the blow dryer and that was it. Before I put it all back together I plugged it back in and let out a yell when my phone powered on and I saw my daughters face staring up at me from the screen.
Everything works and nothing was lost!!!
It would have taken about 10 minutes and about 25cents in isopropyl for the company that said it was economically unrepairable to do the same, but I guess that doesn't make the providers any money.
Good luck. Hey and I'm no tech person anyone can do it, you've got nothing to lose.

First of all I'm a dudette so it is a big deal. How many chics do you know that would open up their phones and clean it?
As for the zip lock idea..the phone won't be going to the bathroom with me anymore it'll stay in my purse and out of my pocket. But good idea for when I'm at the lake!

Humidity can also over time i'm guessing cause the phone to get that buildup. like in the steamy bathroom while taking a shower etc. the bathroom is definatly a BAD place overall for a cellphone what do you all think the next to worst place is?? maybe the kitchen? outdoors in general is bad LOL. lakes puddles etc.
